Poem Artwork

" Always believe there is an Angel looking after you......because there is "

.............................................................................................

Sitting quietly on a sheltered dune,

gazing intently far out to sea

musing on my deepest innermost thoughts

the thunderous sound of the roaring surf

echoing through the corridors of my mind

I can see far and deep at the same time

retrieving the remainders of what was left behind

a skylark spirals upwards into the blue sky

telling me you must rise above it all

and I see your dancing eyes again

fracturing my hidden resolve within

still I have an indomitable spirit in residence

untroubled and unbroken by the hand of fate

I observe a team of ants working non stop

hard work and application is their rule

you will never catch me crying over lost love

I know these are cycles and patterns of our life

that we must live through

a white tailed sea eagle patrols the bay

stalking and quartering its prey

I learned a long time ago

never give anyone an open key to your heart

skipping and larking along the seawall

my sense of humour has always carried me far

Portugese men of war jellyfish arrive

with a deadly sting in the tail

I just take obstacles in my stride

knowing there's a reason for everything

that will soon become clear

shoals of herring inhabit these waters

silver darlings of the fishermen's hearts

and momentarily I capture a glimpse of God's mind

when all is said and done

the total sum of you

will be the remnants of love

you left behind

When one realizes their oneness with nature, remnants are meditation for thinking back one's steps and then progressing forward, putting one foot in front of the other and either moving on or reclaiming what they abandoned. Remnants for me are sincere reflection that I have known I have once been "there." Remnants are EXPERIENCE, Peter!

During my studies of several Hebrew texts I learned that the date of a man's birth is of lesser importance than the day of his death. Why? Because when a man is born his life story, is yet to be known. His legacy of existence is not yet written on this now earth.

Futher analysis of this idea uncovered a much different evaluation of a man's life.

The day of his death. For only then it is recorded to us the true legacy of the man. His accomplishments within himself, within humanity, for humanity; his wisdoms of equality and his ability to improve the lives of others through gentle acts of kindness, improving the atmospheres around him with compassion and understanding.

Your verse captures those qualities of thought very well.

Wonderful and clear images and emotions, here. I hope this is a long ago love lost, and not a new one.

This is a gem that unfolds to address nearly every one of the inner emotions we all face in our lives. As vast as the sea, is our pool of emotions and you have used the landscape to not only embellish and tempt the senses but as a coordinate to our inner thoughts and fears. Excellent write, Peter.

Take care,

Sherry

I'm awed by this poem. It's a eyeful of nature along a peaceful/solitude-seeking beach walk and it's a closeup look at the pangs of lost love. I really admire your passion for living and your respect for the past .

Man, you have just captured about all the sentiments and fear and loating possible within the confines of this little poem. Using the landscape and those that thrive on it, you gave us metaphors galore. Fabulous job! One thing you are one hundred percent right about is saving the core of you for yourself, never, ever give that away to anyone or anything.
