" They can conquer who believe they can. He has not learned the first lesson in life who does not every day surmount a fear.

Ralph Waldo Emerson

................................................................................

Sweet the fresh dew lies carpeting the svelte lawn

as I tread my onerous way through the herbaceous garden

sylph stemmed gladioli in colorful display light up my way

and I can't get you out of my mind, not that I want too

weary and fatigued from my punishing routine and schedule

I seek sanctuary and solace in my own corner

where I can lick my wounds, and heal my soul

a gray squirrel disturbs the silence all around

he is making provisions for a long hard winter ahead

as I contemplate within myself, the things that will be

succulent yellow honeysuckle adorn the archway

aberdeen granite stone held together by the keystone

green scaled newts and amphibians swim in the algae covered pond

as I take a breather on the dedicated wooden park bench

toying with the breathtaking inponderables of life

wishing that I had known you in the springtime of youth

when zest and energy could be turned on like a tap

and I was equipped with what I know now

but maybe the chips would not have stacked right

realising that this game is way beyond our hand

I could give you a million and one reasons

of all the ways I could make you smile

and as the shimmering sun reached its zenith

I stroked my chin as I took on a mischievous grin

It dozen't really matter one iota

for it's all immaterial to you and I

what counts is that I am yours just now

The quote at the top is one of my favorite Emerson quotes. I have VERY much enjoyed my visit to your AD pages this morning. In fact, glancing at the clock I now realize I've spent the last hour or so here...just perusing at first, and then becoming lost in the words. That's when a writer knows they have done their job well, when a reader becomes so absorbed in reading that time just disappears.

I am imagining the smile as you stroked your chin. Put your mind at rest in peaceful thought, as you have allowed your spirit to be in your soothing surroundings. Some of us never outgrow the exuberance of youth, thank God...simply charge it with the things we now know and carry on into tomorrow more serenly satisfied and emotionally directed than the day before.

Taylor

What a beautiful picture you paint. I can close my eyes and see the place you crafted so well. As if I were able to walk right up to this place and have a seat. Very tranquil!

Be well!!

We all should learn to trust that we are exactly where we are supposed to be, right now, doing exactly what we are doing...it just seems to make sense. We have lessons to learn and lessons to teach on this magical journey we call life and each thing must occur at exactly the right moment to be in harmony with all that is. Beautiful and serene poem, Peter...a wonderful read.
Take care,
Sherry

Aw, Peter, you have such a soothing and evenness about your poetry, so that after reading it I just feel good. That takes talent.

This was very soothing sir peter.

Liked that image of a svelte lawn - graceful and slender in contour.

Emerson - good grief, I was reading him today! Seems we are connected in the Spirit!

"weary and fatigued from my punishing routine and schedule" Sheesh . . . can I ever relate to that!

Love the image!

I would like to float there in an inner-tube for several hours and as you so eloquently put: toying with the breathtaking inponderables of life" take a breather from the routine of daily working and striving.

Greetings from SoCal

Yes Peter,
when the soul sees the carnal as simply translucent then it can emerge it’s wings unto rivers of freedom found in the great consciousness. I know you have emerged into this great refuge of solace.. Yes it is all irrelevant when the carnal is just another dimension that at times has it’s way.. As usual the amazing imagery is just so filled with manna and spirit beauty. Your soul is soaring high today, Peter. Thank you for this gift and the beauty it does speak and yes, angels are hearing you…

Peace & Love, Dove
