Just a Black and White Snapshot
Just a black and white snapshot
Now long wrinkled with age
One corner feebly clinging
to that old picture album’s page
There’s a girl not yet a woman
A boy who thinks he’s a man
In front of our rusty old Falcon
the one with the leaky oil pan
That house in the background
was my Mom’s and Dad’s
the clothes that we’re wearing
were just yesterday’s fads
A war was raging in Vietnam
that we could watch on TV
A little baby girl was born
they said looked like me
There were judges and lawyers
when our world fell apart
You got custody of our baby
but she kept a piece of my heart
Just a black and white snapshot
like me wrinkled with age
Took me back through the years
to that day and that page

awesome little car...just as your awesome poem pulls memories for you...it pulls memories for me too...did the Father of the baby get to know his little girl who had that piece of his heart??

ps. I've owned three 1960 ford falcons, and a 60 something falcon with a toreno body in my day so they are real familar to me. By the time they were in the 70's you had to always put plywood on the back floor boards to keep the kids feet from falling through.
Hugs,
Chrissie
Heartfelt write, my friend. Love the pic and yes, old pictures can flood back memories, some good, some bad. Enjoyed this peek into your past.
