I look back at my childhood and remember so many wonderful things and one of my favorites was those old cowboy shows or "dusters". They always had a plot that involved good over evil, standing up for what is right no matter if you had to fight for it, a lady was a lady no matter if she were a school teacher of a saloon worker, honest work was honest work no matter how menial or hard etc. Yes man fought with fists and guns if necessity called for it but the overwhelming message was that you stood for what was right and fought against what was wrong. Well they brought all of that to an end...too violent, too much gunplay, don't hit and turn the other cheek. Well sadly I think a generation lost some valuable lessons for now kids play hand held video games that scream at them to kill police or rape the innocent. Things like terrorists attacks against countries for they have no morals when it comes to attac king us and wars not for rightousness but for greed. Anyway I am ranting so I will close and hope you see where I am coming from with this...

*Old Dusters and Morals* *You know…* *I still love old cowboy songs and horses* *Still enjoy a cowboy picture show* *Silhouettes, sunsets, wagons in a row* *Grew up seeing Ben Cartwright and his boys* *Roy Rogers, Johnny Yuma and the Rifleman* *Oh yes, I had to be his biggest fan* *Let’s not forget the lovely lady of Big Valley* *Her daughter stole my heart in many ways* *Boy, those sure were the days* *Then there were the singing yodeling cowboys* *Gene Autrey, Roy and Dale Rogers too* *Man they were great I’m telling you* *The good guy always triumphed over evil* *The line between right and wrong was clear* *Now it seems but a memory I share* *They say it had far too much violence* *For young minds to watch on TV* *Instead we give them murder video games* *and I hate the things I see….*

I've heard of (most of) these cowboys, but I've never watched them in action. Nonetheless, I read this twice, because it was that awesome! Love and Hugs,

Fee, You bring back great memories...I remember those days, women wore bras, and men opened doors and never ever expected sex on the first date...where has morality and good sense gone???

I hear that, specifically those last two lines, so maybe we get you a cape & some tights (LOL, that I would LOVE to see) & you can fight crime and such in this day and age...ED (or give you a horse, a badge and a winchester like the the Rifleman had, how about that?)

Nicely written and nostalgic Fee... I wish these were the only things that changed though. Life has become more violent in many other ways too.

Yeah...those were the days! Of course, as a Mennonite, I didn't grow up seeing these shows because we didn't have TV and stuff. It might be good that today we don't have things so black and white. We can be much more inclusive with people now. (This IS a philosophical piece, right Fee?)

They did have violence, but never one spot of blood.
And if we're gonna talk about violence, what about Popeye and Brutus always fighting, or the Three Stooges? Now that was violence for its own sake.

must say that except for two side kicks all those heroees ere uniformly white (Exceptions: Poncho, and Tonto.)

the problem with video games it that it takes the buck fever hesitation out of firing a weapon, the military uses video "games" to teach soldiers to shoot w/o hesitation

How so sadly true. I think the youth of today are missing a lot, and I'm glad I grew up in what I believe was a better era.

PS: My Western movie collection is quite extensive, and you've given me the urge to watch another great Western, today.
