Expulsion
They marched to the beat of Thomson drums
Edicts read in language they barely understood
Prisoners under the shadow of political carnage
Forced with guns at their backs, bayonets fixed
Man, woman and child herded together like cattle
Beaten husbands separated cruelly from wives
Even children torn from screaming parents arms
Homesteads of generations burned to ground
Cattle and livestock confiscated, crops destroyed
From their beloved home of Grande Pre to Halifax
From Halifax to foreign lands around the world
The largest number to be resettled in Louisiana
Their crime to refuse to swear allegiance to a King
A King who was not their ruler by blood or birth
Many perished aboard ships, some escaped
But none forgot or forgave….
