All who have ever written a book, be it poetry, fiction, non fiction or whatever I hope will relate to this write. For to reach the end is always such a feeling of completion and satisfaction, even though there is still a ton of work to do after that...

Poem Artwork

Last Page

Alas he hits the “save as” button
Drinks the last sip of cold tea
He turns off his radio white noise
Then hits the power down key

Word count of forty thousand
Page three hundred and ten
Nights, days, weeks and months
Married to his electronic pen

Mind, heart and soul poured into
Once just a vague idea sublime
A lot like piling building blocks
One block equals another line

Had no clue to where it was headed
Only knew he had to follow along
To see where it was going to take him
Whether good, bad, right or wrong

On the last page he typed “The End”
He smiles knowing that’s its a lie
Now comes his rewrites and edits
If its to ever see the publisher’s eye

Felix, there is gratification at "The End". But from the beginning and on into the meat of the process there is a continuous string of highs as each small mountain peak on the journey is reached. An interesting and entertaining perspective of a literary journey my dear friend. I bid you love and peace. Jon Michael

How so very true! I've published six books, and the feelings were the same, with each of them.

Congrats on reaching your latest Last Page.

You paint a very clear picture here, Felix. And I like the lines
"To see where it was going to take him
Whether good, bad, right or wrong"
because whatever the outcome, we keep working, wanting the experience to be complete. Nice!

You have expressed your feelings so well here, Fee; summed up everything in the lines you write about so knowingly. Should I publish or should I just be happy writing poetry? The answer is always a big decision for the individual person. Good write.

Sometimes the 'last page' can end up being the 'first page' to your next adventure...just saying...

But there is also that feeling of sadness.. for the book has become a friend, is your child, or that part of you.. whatever it may be to you.. and when it ends a part of you ends too.. wonderful work here.. Myrna

This sounds like fair warning to those of us who have never attempted a full blown novel. Short articles and poems have quenched my thirst quite nicely, thus far. Thanks Dick

Yes Fee...I feel this one....and then the publishers and agents are soooooo elusive! So much work goes into writing a book that most often never gets attention....

Anna

Glitches of writing and painstaking time in making sense of the whole progression... My thoughts, on what you've written has affected each and every writer... I've taken hiatus for almost 9 months and just let everything go... Better focus when you do come back and say... why in God's creation did I write that and not see the turn of events then??? Because you really don't see the facts, until after the resting period away from the whole mess of things... Thanks for sharing...
