Odin Roark's recent poem helped me to recall and write about one of our best trips to ancient Greece. Photo: My wife, Elizabeth who accompanied me during our Mediterranean tour.

I recalled our trip to the Olympic ruins in Greece. We actually ran where the ancients put their feet. I ran like a teen sprinting that old dusty Olympic track. It was a thrill into History and it's good to look back! History is fascinating; it teaches us much about love, war, good times and strife. For, History will repeat itself if we don't learn from the past life. 12/12/18 John Michael Domino

Of course, the tour guide wanted everyone to be wearing shorts, a T-shirt and decent sneakers. No nude runners allowed! Oh, well! I ran alongside a real Olympic competitor who was going to Germany for trials. She complimented me for my form, but she also left me in the dust! We were not asked about our sexual preferences. In total there were about 20 of us who took the challenge from a cruise ship of over 2,800 folks.

Did you run like the ancient Greeks? Naked? Actually, at that time, I believe your wife would have been banned from the premises. So, unless you were a homosexual, there would be no sexual undertones to the competition. It is amazing that that practice of competing between the city states, rather than war, has come down all the way to today, where a barricaded country like North Korea can compete on the world stage and thereby, enlighten their people.

Travel is such that education. I wish everybody could.
