WHY LAFAYETTE, LOUISIANA IS THE GREATEST

Lafayette is the greatest, there is no better place
For when the good Lord made it, He showered it with grace
He took the finest people and scattered them around
It has become a fountain, where hope and love abounds
A lot of 'cajun flavor' He stirred into the pot
And that famous 'joie de vive' is what its all about

As we count our blessings, of much we can be proud
For we  have been a model, with voice so strong and loud
Friendly to our neighbors, we lend a helping hand
Yes, this is why God made us, "The Hub Of Cajun Land"
We are friendly people, our arms are opened wide
We love to meet new people, and show our Cajun pride

Sure we have our problems, but we will work them out
We'll overcome these bad times, of this there is no doubt
Lafayette is greatest, because its people are
The kind that work together, this they know us for
And I feel that we were blessed, that God did not forget
To make this piece of Heaven, we know as Lafaayette
