Burning Teepees

Everytime I heard i politician say "that land of ours" I remember the Maories thousands of years in Australia, the genocide of the Patagonians, the six thousand years of the Native Americans on their land, until "civilized" man came with their atrocities in the name of their God destroying everything else but not the loot that they took back home.
Next time you hear the indiscriminate claim of "our land" think about how you treat your sister eagle and your brother wolf, and...how have you soiled with pollution "your land" ...and theirs.

Poem Artwork

The number of days in a year, that’s how
many of my braves are riding by my sides,
from our own Hundred Nations they come
to tell the Pale Faces that fire will call fire,
after burning our teepees, killing squaws,
and fighting with an old man holding a child
its not a honor way but the cowards way to
sneak like scorpions upon the weak at night.

Enough, you are coyotes wearing blue jackets
which will not confront with your long knives
the ones you call savages when you in our land
are the ones that should be called the trespassers;
you can't own the earth, the rain or the buffalo,
nor can you tell the eagle how to fly the skies,
you don’t have a heart, just a piece of meat,
even the dogs of my braves wouldn’t apprise.

Thunder, you will hear our thunder coming near
and with fear the guilty men will for sure agonize,
because my Great Spirit Manitou as you all know
like the God of yours the righteous will guide;
you can run your horses to dead pale face man
but from the Hundred Nations you can’t hide,
we were here long before your father’s fathers
thought of crossing the big waters on its tides.

Tomorrow the spirit of Geronimo and Crazy Horse
in Little Big Horn with Sitting Bull will ride,
there will the same no mercy of burning teepees
as you cowardice with all my braves collide;
brother wolf and Mother Earth, night and day,
Apache, Comanche, Cherokee and Lakota Ogallala,
Pueblo, Sioux, Navaho, Shoshone, Choctaw, Arapaho,
the feathers will fly on ours…that's not your land.

It is rather appalling to think of what we did... Sadder still, to realize that this has happened in so many places around the world, and in some ways, still is happening in the name of industry and power sources, etc...

Powerful write, Georg; this is when I am ashamed to be wasitchu (white man), for what we did to our Native brothers and sisters. Tragic!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in America, Karen Lynn in Texas. :( >tears! <

We called them 'savages', but who are the most savage? The Native Americans were wise enough to know that no one really "owns" the land. Most now just greedily use it. Wise words you poetize, Georg...

Wow Georg, what once was is no more, all is the pity of the many attrocities that were performed, senseless attrocities that never should have been and the pain of it all still lingers in the hearts and minds of many....

Be always safe,
Karen

Though so many years separate me from the reality of their experiences I am forever joined in spirit to my Cherokee ancestors and I can not think of their sufferings and the injustices done to them without and aching heart and weeping eyes. A powerful write Georg.

We had no passports or visas; we didn't speak their language; and we greedily took what we wanted, without a single ounce of remorse. We were the Poster Children of Illegal Immigration. Yet, today, in the good old U.S. of A so many hate illegal immigrants. They must painfully remind us of ourselves, although today's immigrants are far less savage.
