Every abused child has that "place" it can be a determinate one, a tree, a room or in the head, but where to go when escaping from reality.
Some, will never let go that "place" it will be there, always ready and empty to be filled with whatever emotional painful secrets...

Poem Artwork

Dedicated to Ed Matlack that inspired this poem
with his own “Zen & the Art of Relaxation”

The place was a dark corner where
there was the meeting of two walls,
a child, shrunk like burned by fire,
inside that shadows, being so small,
that her fury could not touch him,
nor her vomit, of insulting words.

The place was a dark corner where
light couldn’t enter, escape’s door,
if one closed the eyes could enter
the loving whisper of another world,
telling the child about tomorrows
when he, going away, will not stop.

The place was a dark corner where
tears were not allowed, not at all,
where he now could hear enchanted
whispers, and the diatribes no more,
just a promise of tender caresses
instead of the welts that fury brought.

The place was a very dark corner
where she couldn’t find the small,
because if he closed his eyes tight
he will be invisible, or so he thought,
as inside his heart hate was growing
in another dark corner, big enough.

THE CHILD WAS NOT IN THAT DARK CORNER ALONE...THEN...NOR AT 'ONCE IN A WHILE VISITS'...EVEN NOW. GOD BLESS AND THANKS FOR SHARING.

I believe that often times, children who have placed themselves in that corner become so good at imagining a better life, that they become oblivious to those who reach out their hand to assist and who really do care. At that point, the "corner" is too appealing to depart from. And thus...it becomes a vicious cycle with no healing occurring. This, in some regards, is the definition of RAD (reactive attachment disorder).

Once again Dear Georg..
you have written the sorrow of the children. The ones hiding and unaware someone cares.
Sad and true words are captured in this writing!

Too much sadness that some children experience. You reveal that pain so boldly in this poem, Georg! I pray that the pain no longer lingers with you, dear friend!

He closes his eyes so he can't see anymore
this is the way he meditated behind his door.

I KNOW this Feeling Georg!
Mine (and you brought it ALL back)was the INSIDE of the back closet, the Attic area and it went sideways, cause of the shape of the roof.
I feel a poem comin' on now...

Feel the happiness within knowing, you are dealing and have dealt as the healing began!
GREAT Poem, I could feel your loneliness THEN and the Pain!

WRITE ON!
HAPPY! Easter Day My friend!

Oh Georg, I cried from the first stanza on. The abuse of little children is so horrendous it makes me sick. So innocent, born to be happy, all destroyed by words and deeds of those they depend on to protect and nurture. You've written a great poem here my friend.
Hugs,
Marcia

this is so sad and so true--as one who has lived through similar --your words, "nor her vomit, of insulting words." are an apt description!--and the hate he feels in the end--i pray that all who suffer can turn that into something other than hate because the hate only destroys the hater

Georg,
Powerful and heartfelt poem! Is sad that any child would have to live like this when they should be playing and laughing and having fun. Abuse steals their childhood along with their self esteem. I also write for the abused children, Georg... but this one speaks VOLUMES!!!

Blessings,
~Linda

This wonderful poem is one of your best, Georg, and it shows how well you can express you innermost thoughts and pain, baring a portion of the poet's heart within.
