Today you are celebrating another year and another Father day, I just wish to give tribute to the man that among many imparted so everlasting feeling to so many children that ashame to say it loud, but why they should go away with emotional murder? because they were "fathers"?
Please bear with.

The silence was my silence,
only broken now and then
by the loving sound of my father’s
approaching steps, even if he didn’t
pause to ruffle my hair
or to look my way.
He never raised his hand to strike
my face nor raised his voice in anger,
but he never broke our silence
in between either.
I supposed he had nothing to say
to me and I was afraid to switch
the light ON and let him see
what was hiding in my shadows,
provoking with it the front door
to slam one final time, leaving me alone,
as always, but this time forever.
When he passed away I wasn’t given
the chance to say goodbye
but got the cruelest words
“When the dog’s dead the rabies are gone”.
I only can remember of my father
one afternoon when he was back
from one of his travels,
I was trying desperately
to call his attention by pulling his sleeve,
say something to make him proud of me,
to look at me, so I blurted
“I cry no more when mother beat me up!”
To this day I don’t think he never heard me,
he just kept walking.
I have wondered in my adulthood
why the lights came up at all.
Someone told me once that holidays
was just that, days, agonizing long
without a taste of Christmas or New Year
Halloween or Thanksgiving,
just another day.
Like that moonless Fathers Day’s
evening near the front like
with merry snipers on both sides,
when a wounded soldier down
in no man’s land I thought was calling
help for my mother.
Was he kidding?
Was he really expecting she to come?
Keep the shadows,
without belonging somewhere
or to somebody,
until the catharsis overwhelms
the soul and one wish
to close the eyes and disappear.

I said, “Happy Fathers’ Day, Dad…”

He replied, “Happy what?...eeeh?...who?”

IT IS A GOOD THING TO BE OPEN AND HONEST ABOUT OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH OUR PARENTS. EVEN THOUGH, IN OUR OWN WAY, WE STILL LOVED THEM, ONE MUST TELL IT LIKE IT REALLY WAS. THE IMPERFECTIONS THAT ATTACK AND EVENTUALLY 'MOLD' US IN OUR CHILDHOOD...CERTAINLY ARE A GREAT PART OF WHO WE ARE TODAY BUT, I WONDER...WAS NOT GOD, EVEN THEN, PREPARING US FOR THIS END TIME WORLD? PREPARING US TO WITHSTAND THE MENTAL AND EMOTIONAL ASSAULTS THAT WE WOULD HAVE TO FACE THROUGHOUT OUR LIVES THUS, 'COAXING' US TO SEEK AND RECEIVE 'HIS' LOVE AND 'HIS' AFFECTION. 'VICTORIOUS' AFTER ALL AND ALL BECAUSE..."ALL THINGS WORK TOGETHER FOR GOOD TO THEM THAT LOVE GOD AND ARE CALLED ACCORDING TO HIS PURPOSE..." I DO BELIEVE THIS. THANKS FOR SHARING THIS EXCELLENT WORK THAT WAS THOROUGHLY APPRECIATED AND ENJOYED. GOD BLESS.

Georg, Your words overwhelming are appreciated by a fellow human being who lived in the virtual no-man's land trying avoid being caught in the middle of a loveless marriage. Finally being claimed as property by the victor as spoils of war. I was ravaged and abused, in word and in deed, by the very souls who claimed to love me.

This poem nails squarely on the head the very heart of those truths, that so many suppress or try vainly to be heard. There are just too many victims to be helped by so few.

Amazing self-revelation you have shared here in your heartfelt, painful verses. I only hope you have found in yourself a place to call home, regardless the cold winds of change and indifference blowing all around you.

it is so grieving for me since I was not blessed to have a Father after I was 5, he passed on at age 30 & then there are those Fathers whom are there....but not really....then there are those with horrid minds of invasions to their children....and still we all find some reason to love life & maybe even forgive...Thank You for sharing your heart Georg....

I read this early after you posted it, but couldn't find any words to write a review for your poem.
After spending a wonderful day with my children and grand children, thinking of your write during the day, I find myself still without a voice.
With this poem you have done what many have tried, made me speechless.

I now have reread your work that is wonderfully written and can feel the hurt in your words.
Still find there is no review from me that would be worthy!
You my friend have been robed of your childhood, and for that I am sorry.
Hope you had a good day despite the past

Your poem made me cry Georg. You deserved to be loved. How sad for a little boy to feel the pain you must have felt. Your father sounds much like my own. He wasn't around much and I don't remember ever telling him Happy Father's Day. I never would have because he was just a man who went to work and then came home and was silent. He was never a father.
Hugs,
Marcia

Such sadness, tears at the heart of fathers who loved their children and spent their lifes nurturing and protecting them. My heart breaks when I contemplate any other kind of parent than that, perhaps I was spoiled with knowing the love of both my parents.

Georg, there are many of us who have haunting memories of our father or mothers...I never celebrated Father's day with my dad, he was never a father to me or my siblings...Very sad, very sad indeed...I believe it makes us stronger people and better parents, so my dearest friend, Georg, I say Happy Father's Day to you!!!!

Much peace, love, and light,
