Old Woman, Old Dog

We talk about so many little creatures in animal shelters, alone, disposed of, abandoned, the last recourse of lives trying to do the right thing and yet, heart breaking.
Then, we have our elderly, in other kind of "shelters" no less alone, no less abandoned, no less heart breaking.
If we ask one of them...what would we hear?

Poem Artwork

I was a little girl that used
to play with special dolls
until Santa on Christmas
came with a puppy dog,
a quick funny little thing
full of warmth and love.

Today I am an old woman
with a sudden recall
of an exiting face search
by a little and dry nose,
a wagging little tail
and a yapping little voice.

Solitude, not for old people,
like to imagine a companion
that got older with me
as we wait at the end for God.
Elderly solitude, no little friend
to walk that last mile, but alone.

There is much cruelty in the world today that gets swept under the rung in a way. The elderly, disabled, and a host of animals that seem to be disgarded with the evening trash. Whatever happened to compassion and extending a helping hand without asking "What's in it for me?"...

Be always safe,
Karen

This is SADdddddddddddd! Everyone needs to cuddle and feel cuddled!
To the ending of our glorious days!
Being "ALONE" is state of mind, as we age we must just get INVOLVED! and Appreciate what is in front of our journey ahead, is my view! Smile! My friend,...

This poem reminds me of the puppy poem I wrote last week, and haven't put in YET, and I should because of a near accident.
P.S. the pictures are historical!

Alone is not bad...but lonely breaks the heart. Our pets unconditionally fill our hearts.

I think no one is ever alone. We only need to acknowledge everything around us; people, nature, animals, love and human limitations. No expectations, just acceptance. Anticipation of the "next journey" should take the place of sadness. So smile Georg. :)

Sheri

Man's best friend is certainly that. The elderly in our aunt's nursing home always reach out for a pat when our pooch comes visiting. Your poem is beautiful and so sad. Thanks, Liz

Georg,
You've written this with great control, it would've been tempting to gush but you didn't and for that the work stands taller, more dignified, worthwhile.

It is so sad to not have family
I envy everyone who has a "Loving" family
Family helps each other every step of the way...
This reality her within...is so heartwrenching...
Life so beautiful & then so very cold

So sad and for many so true. Fortunately many of our seniors homes have resident cats and visiting canines which help to bring comfort to the elderly people. Good observation tho Georg. Hugs, J'nia

After reading Ed's review, and your poetry Georg, I really do believe, it's hight time for a weeding out, like in Noah's time, and it best be soon. Myself, I think when I feel the time coming, I'll go to the States buy myself a gun( can't get one here) and let the wolf's and ravens have me, rather then the old age prisons that most of us will be shoved into as an inconvienience. Those that hurt that little old ladies pooch and her heart, should have their balls cut out, or simular whatever, you don't want them to breed again, ever!
Blessings! Jasmin Horst

We are definitely an extremely cruel race, to both animals and our elderly. And we now often combine this cruelty. I just heard about an elderly woman whose only real friend left in the world was her little dog. Her relatives decided she could no longer live alone in her home. So they stuck her in a nursing home, and they dumped her dog, by the side of the road.
