Poem Artwork
My thoughts are afflicted, and
The excruciation of not hearing has
Empowered Pluto’s scheming and
Persephone’s arrant dominions

As my ally and friend
I entreat you to take away
The shackles of my indignation and
Allow me to cast off these old boots of
Knowing so I may receive the warmth
Of your countenance and a blessed
Surcease of endless grieving

For long have I toiled
Against the buffeting winds;
Tempted by leviathans crafty plots;
Through days of disguised wickedness;
Ensnared by the machinations of evil men;
Bound in cages forged to enchant me;
Influenced by the Cyprian goddess;
Seeking a place of empathizing to
Fully apprehend the unveiling
Of Calliopes exquisitely
Woven garlands

Come forth ancient Muse
To shower grains of life in me;
To reanimate my unyielding heart;
To proffer me the mysteries of reason -
Shared in the most consummate aether -
Where angelic murmurations bubble
As the purest of woodland currents,
And the heart sings its sad songs -
It is here I seek the supernal
Happiness of a soundless
Demise

Bereft am I now of
Thoughtfulness, and my
Tongue is as useless as the
Mute poet of Lesbos

Fascinating write, Richard. I do understand toiling against the wind overlylong. I think we've all been there and have come to realize just how spiritual the fight gets. Great writing here. Love and hugs,
Sheila

There is some autobiographical essence to this. But then again, it is every man's journey to try to express himself through life's endless plots and disappointments. Truly well penned.

Your tongue is anything but useless, dear chum! This poem speaks to all who have labored in mind and body over years, only to come to a place where the tired body screams for a rest from it all. So we give it a rest, then go on. Especially, when one has a magnificent gift of writing such as you do!

Richard, may your muse be near and your pen inspired to write more exquisite poetry like this!

You are a marvelous poet Richard, brilliantly expressing the crucial longing to feel more, to be able to express more...to cast off the layers of repression. (At least, that is how I experience this.)
Blessings,
CT

Richard,
This is seeing at another level, the level of vision.
The classical eternal images underpin the scope of
beyond the moment, the universal truth.
Never 'Bereft ... of Thoughtfulness,'

masterfully done. i don't know what else to say. this poem flows like water over smooth rocks, swirling with truisms and pleas for enlightenment, darkness and light, tragedy and hope.

I cannot cast off my boots, as I have only worn them in the cold snowy weather here in Jersey...they are insulated to -20 degrees & waterproof, but they are heavy and a bear to put on...maybe this last snow last night will be the LAST!? Ed

I fully understand, Richard. Though I have no boots
to cast away, I do have me trusty cane which I'd be happy
to float out to sea. As for you, my friend, it's difficult
to pity your suffering when you write so well. In you,
beautiful poetry lives... -gene.
