'Artless on a raging sea'...

Friday, January 23, 2015

Poem Artwork
I’m not the one I used to be
Who broke the rules and pushed the bar
Who never wavered, can’t you see,
I’m not the one I used to be,
But now since much has changed in me
I’ll dream but never go too far,
I’m not the one I used to be
Who broke the rules and pushed the bar

I’m not someone of naïve quest
Espousing all that’s given me
Nurturing all my hearts unrest
I’m not someone of naïve quest,
But if I’ve not somehow possessed
The art of sweet simplicity,
I’m not someone of naïve quest
Espousing all that’s given me

I’m not the one I used to see
In stirring flames and mountain streams
Artless on a raging sea
I’m not the one I used to see,
But if I’ve struggled just to be
A somber shawl of unsung dreams,
I’m not the one I used to see
In stirring flames and mountain streams

I’ve become withdrawn with age
Beguiled with simple fare
Inspired more to disengage
I’ve become withdrawn with age,
Nevermore to war and rage
Against this life unfair,
I’ve become withdrawn with age
Beguiled with simple fare

The idea of a simple life appeals greatly to me. However, there may come a time, even at advanced age, when one must face the raging sea that life can sometimes, become.

In total, the poem emotes wisdom.

Espousing all that's given me. Beguiled with simple fare.
A heartfelt read.

Richard, What a difficult rhyme scheme you chose to write this message of loss. "Artless on a raging sea" opens out to so many interpretations. Keep on writing because your words reach out to touch others you will never meet. Well done. Eileen

I'm not the one I used to be either,
Then when I got mad I'd reach for a cleaver,
Now I do the right thing,of both, neither,
I just sit right down, and initiate a personal breather...

The strength of your writing rises far above the crowd,
and you write so well in telling us of who you are not.
Expertly crafted.

So well said, and so sad to become withdrawn with age. Simple fair is fine but becoming resigned to the notion that I wasted too much time caring about the sorry state of things and invested too little enjoying what was wonderful is a deep regret. Don't withdraw too soon, Richard, or too far.

Best, Jan
