Poem Artwork
Mist was rolling in, moving from the sea to the land. Moisture-formed drops began refracting late afternoon sunlight; droplets like water-diamonds brooding on the grass, rock, and shrub.
.
Alone today, she sat gazing out to sea, where – as the moisture moved around and beyond her, past ramshackle cottages, and broken fences, past apathy and neglect, past unplowed fields, past weed choked gardens and barren trees, past the withered lives of jaded dreamers and grief-stricken hearts – she envisioned her soon-coming love rejoicing.
.
And how she longed for His arrival. For in her life - time after time - she’d known the creak of rusted hinges, forlorn cries echoing across the fields, brooding figures shambling trodden paths, the shouts of reprobates, and in the callous hearts of the masses, only bundles of dry sticks.
.
And yet…
.
Though her aching to feel more was bombarded daily by endless minatory impels - an ever-changing landscape, abject evil, and the cold-heartedness of so many - it was an unwavering devotion to her first love that exceeded her fear of being swept away. In her heart, she joyfully foresaw His glorious approach; an imminent nearness, when her Beloved would sweep her off her feet, and fulfill her every longing.
.
“Come quickly my love,” She whispered.

INDEED, LET IT BE UNDERSTOOD. JESUS NEVER LEAVES US. IT'S WE THAT TURNS OUR BACK ON 'HIM'. BUT TOUGH WE HAVE SPURNED HIM, 'HE' WHO CALLS US BELOVED REMAINS, IN THE SHADOWS...WAITING PATIENTLY... UNTIL WE ARE READY TO RECEIVE HIM...AGAIN. OUR 'FIRST LOVE' CAN NEVER BE DENIED OR FORGOTTEN. THIS IS A KEEPER, DONE SO FINE! THANK YOU FOR SHARING, RICHARD. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS

The sense of longing is so delicately rendered and heartbreaking. Her surroundings are in sync with her world and easily seen.

Really this is a lovely piece of work;
as she gazed up into heaven,
with faith and in her God;
she is hoping to see a day of change for her life.
Nice work, thanks for sharing, Richard.

So beautifully rendered. It is an honor to read your poetry again. The images conjured up while reading seem to be a post apocalyptic world with one woman hoping, longing, for that first love that would take her away from this world gone awry. And, I can't help thinking that her love is Jesus.

What a stirring description of love, told in the ethereal wisp of mist and breeze and the insights of the mind that has experienced much, felt the pains and the elevations of life. And what could be more rewarding than to meet—almost face to face—the strength, the resolve, and the sheer determination of a woman who knows her own heart and will not depart from it. You give both prose and poetry a good name.

The magic of prosetry is such an enhancement to those overworked notions of what life is about and why it's worth living fully. Here, you have proffered the essence of love is not the object identity itself, but the movement, the vibratory aura that emanates outward, embracing all who will allow it to be true to itself. Such is the being of love. Thank you for sharing.
