Light (the First Poet)

by Richard Lloyd Cederberg — Read all 280 poems by Richard Lloyd Cederberg

Don't be [too] preoccupied with impressing, with being relevant, or with sounding profound. As each flower of the field, and every other living thing in nature, has its own color, shape, fragrance, and personality, so does the heart of a poet. When you write from your source with all your heart, and mind, and soul, you will touch those that you are meant to touch. rlc

Poem Artwork
From the concept,
To the moment of adoption,
When what was fancied
Is ascertained,
And configuration
Is breathed into what
Were otherwise stochastic
Particles drifting aimlessly in
An upper-atmosphere of hypothesis,
A place where curiosity plunges hands into
The boundlessness of theory and begins to form –
From vivid mental images, assertiveness, and spirit -
Something new added into time’s continuum…
.
Understanding that as Human-beings
Are wrought from a thought, then a seed, and
Then given form, even so, espousing Light and Truth
(As being bound inextricably in formulation and purpose)
Marks deeper understanding…
.
So… into the crucible the
Metalworker thrusts the alloy,
Heating and altering its contents,
Sand-casting to mold a thing functional,
To offer a thing necessary,
To perpetuate a cycle,
(Mists
Appearing
A moment and
Then disappearing)
Humanity living and breathing
And all searching depth-of-purpose…
.
Potters wedging the clay, removing the air,
Repeatedly throwing it down upon the bench
And cutting through and rejoining it in a different
Orientation to form (upon the wheel) a thing usable of
Function, necessary to fulfill a purpose, momentarily satisfying
A need in the grand cycle of Birth, Growth, Fruition, Demise,
As the fullness of time rises to appointed levels
(In the ebb and flow of universal dynamics)
And where all Truth-Bearers carryon a
Sacred responsibility of creating
Something bearing LIGHT
Which is capably put to use by others, and,
With no hindrance, points them to The First Poet…
“And God said, “Let there be Light,” and there was Light.”

AH, YES! 'LET THERE BE LIGHT'! THE GREATEST OF ALL POETICAL PHRASES EVER TO COME FORTH WAS UTTERED BY THE GREATEST OF ALL POETS, INDEED! FOR FROM THIS PHRASE, HIS COMMAND... 'LIGHT' FILLED THE EARTH AND ALL ITS CREATIONS...FOREVER! WITHOUT THIS 'LIGHT' WE WOULD BE ABSOLUTELY NOTHING...WITHOUT HIM WE ARE ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. SUBSEQUENTLY WE THEN WHO ARE AWARE OF AND EMBRACE THIS LIGHT ARE ALL...'HIS' POETS. FANTASTIC AND SO ENJOYED, RICHARD. THANKS FOR SHARING THIS KEEPER. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS

Richard...to thank you for sharing your mind with such beautiful words seems to simple a thing to say...too tame to fully acknowledge how powerful this display of words really are...and there's the ending, words that have been read with many eyes...yet it took this with all its twists and turns to really appreciate the ending..."And God said, "Let there be Light," and there was Light." A beautiful piece of work. Elizabeth Towles

Sir Richard the Galahad

You have put together a fine blend and medley that leads one straight to the door of the Creator.
Never rest your pen Sir Richard and always remember your distinguished background.

I remember my advisor telling me when I thought that one of his ideas seemed unlikely, "an idea is a very fragile thing." That thought has stayed with me and came to mind while reading your poem. I think you're right that the best of us comes from spontaneity and not from trying to be the best or to best others, something that probably is more reptilian in origin scratching for survival rather than allowing creativity to flourish.

A thought-provoking poem.

An enlightened idea that God is (also) the first poet. Nicely rendered. John

This is a very thoughtful, caring, and poetic view of life from birth to demise, that shows much understanding, though not perfectly nor in a boastful way. Your lead in statement floored me: "Don't be [too] preoccupied with impressing, with being relevant, or with sounding profound." Superbly conceived and written.

Rightly said, Richard!
And like you've said, the truth is like a lion
it can defend itself.
A real lovely piece of work this is.
Thanks for sharing!

Hey you're writing about me here, Richard...and everyone else that has taken pen to paper and written something, anything...also that one word that Ann had to look up I bet it was the same one I looked up too...everything we do and everything we are run randomly towards a center that we will eventually each see and understand...EXCELLENT write, sir, I enjoyed reading it...-e-
