Tell me something new (and I'll remember)

Ekphrasis... 'Let's put our heads together and talk'

Wednesday, May 30, 2018

Poem Artwork
So let’s talk…
And perhaps then
We’ll find something new
In the binge of words and rhymes
We write… something fresh,
Some new perspective
(Perhaps)
That urges a
More determinate
Understanding of all the
Things we never quite grasped,
When we took our lives for granted;
Running and hunting, alone and strong,
Before fences were built, and the freedoms
We all enjoyed were taken from us…
.
Tell me
of inspiration,
(The purest kind)
That arrives without fanfare,
That flows unrestrained and truthful…
.
And tell me why it is
That so many men put aside
Their differences in times of trouble
And join hands in (oneness) until
The trouble has passed…
.
Tell me (too) why it is that
Some ply themselves fruitlessly
For those who applaud imitation
But hiss the real thing…
.
Tell me where
The birds go
During hurricanes …
.
Tell me how the grass blows
East against the source of the sun
An hour before the sun sets…
.
Tell me why sparrows,
Feeding in a freezing drizzle,
Keep dancing in the sight of heaven…
.
Tell me something new (and I’ll remember)
.

Thought-provoking, and an invitation to get back to basics as humans...we have so much more in common as humans than we realize most of the time! I really enjoyed the way you so skillfully took me on this journey and challenge to step back and look at everything with a fresh perspective. Written in a very fresh style which I found invigorating. Thanks Richard!

If this isn't poetry served on a silver platter
and cast in language that dazzles the senses
then tell me what is (and I'll remember)!

A very potent poem, one that can be interpreted by the reader to mean a myriad of many things, based on where they may be in their life...I saw myself in the sparrow. Keep writing, you touch peoples' hearts!

Wonderful! Just plain wonderful. Such simple thoughts with such profound answers yet to be heard. Loved this.

I like the photo. Originality is quite rare. We all stand on the shoulders of giants and really new artistry usually comes the hard way unless by genius.

According to a news report I saw about a hurricane a few years ago, many blackbirds were dead in the street by the motel that the reporter was hiding in from the storm. If birds are smart, they will fly from lower pressure to higher and probably can sense it. Birds live a long time, but the lifespan of baby birds is very short and most fall prey to predators. Older birds have learned.

I find poetry to be the perfect way to express our thoughts in an unfettered way. Most of the time I don't have any idea of what I'm going to write until I write it.

A well structured and well written poem.

I am reminded about that story in the New Testament which goes, (and I paraphrase) 'consider the sparrow, it eats only what it needs today; it doesn't worry about tomorrow, furthermore, the sparrow does not worry, has no anxiety, does not and will not need to see a therapist to answer life's many ups and downs.'

A thought provoking read.

Cheers,
Dan

A fine idea well executed in this poem. Yes, we poets are all searching for something new, a new insight, a new experience, a new world. It looks like you are indeed ready for something new in this wonderful poem.

I love that picture, they must be well fed, and happy. I see our freedoms infringed upon everyday . Casual conversation seems harder, you might have to make a point of some kind. I want to see a bird standing in a super hero pose, wings fierce , head high , tweeting " bring it on!"

A great inquisitive piece of poetry. This is what I learned concerning where birds go during a hurricane:
Similar to how people are warned to evacuate in advance of a hurricane, birds have an internal warning system they follow. They can detect changes in barometric pressure, which warns them of an impending storm. Some birds will simply leave before its arrival. In a hurricane like Sandy that comes in the fall, birds are less attached to an area because they don’t have any chicks. So they can simply fly ahead of the storm to avoid the inclement weather.
Now we know!

The lion and the tiger snuggling close to the grizzly bear is something new to me. Just goes to show that friendship can happen when you least expected it.

The title caught me, the poem held me, and the author never disappoints with his luminous lines of wisdom. Many a question goes unanswered in this transient life that we live. The rarity of aha moments are few and far between, but when they come, they arrive with sighs and great pleasure. I loved your poetry today, Have a blessed day.

Heh.Heh I'll remember it also. We mortals are a secretive bunch, even those who are lauded and applauded. Maybe more so them. Loved this poem, it did, as they say, spoke to me. I'll have your words on my mind for days . . .
