Between Heartbeats...

by Richard Lloyd Cederberg — Read all 280 poems by Richard Lloyd Cederberg

Much of the modern world lies under a pervasive sense of anguish, of being abandoned, or at least experiencing the Creator as absent because of what they personally see and feel and imagine. There are some however, who have far different experiences.

Poem Artwork
In that space between heartbeats,
when life hovers, and hope assumes
the fancy of fulfillment, you came to me
as a living light smiling with extended hands.
Lamenting though, as I was, the epigone misfit,
confused, striving, briefly, in so many words,
to shift the eminence of illusory judgment
across eons of possibilities; you still
loved me
despite myself,
and took the time to
transilluminate those things
hidden in me, those things capricious…
.
Lovingly, you pointed again
at my erstwhile thinking,
as you sought out
discrepancies
and anomalies, to
discourage my desire
to remain rebellious; and you
did so as if it was nothing more than
a horse swatting flies with its tail…
.
You injected
renewing possibilities,
across neural voids; watching
quietly, as revived neurons
began firing
in orchestrated fashion.
After which I found myself
dancing freely, in fleeting moments,
with sunbeams and breezes, as intangible escorts
sought to illuminate, and extrapolate treasures
(for decades hidden) and
reiterate them as curios on shelves…
.
With the smoothness
of warm honey, and the
strength of tectonic plates, your
caring thawed my cold thinking like
those [glaciers in boxes] that
once bound me in shadowy fetters.
It was in that moment,
BETWEEN HEARTBEATS,
where life seems suspended,
and the restless mind
equates dogma with verity,
that you healed those areas in me
once thought sacred, with a dew of Truth.
.
Embracing me fully, we drifted then across landscapes
of new thinking. Together, with melodious, and polyphonic
strains of pure resonance; I discovered, between heartbeats,
that what you’d done for me, had rendered me a new man.

THERE IS A A HYMN WITH A CHORUS LINE THAT GOES LIKE THIS; '...AND HE WALKS WITH ME AND HE TALKS WITH ME AND HE TELLS ME I AM HIS OWN, AND THE JOYS WE SHARE AS WE TARRY THERE...NONE OTHER, HAS NEVER, KNOWN...' AND IT ALL HAPPENS 'BETWEEN HEARTBEATS'. AMEN AND BLESSINGS. LOVE AND OVERFLOWING FAITH TO YOU, RICHARD...JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS

This is a finer rendering of love, and understanding, and belief than any I have ever heard or read from those who stand in a pulpit. It inspires during and between heartbeats.

An unbelievable metamorphosis all without the context of a human entity in search of self-discovery and the love beyond words that can make it all happen. Excellent writing.

Wow! Very few writers have the vocabulary available to them to describe the way the heart feels when it is found by Him. Your words are powerful today Richard, and your heart is faithful , it has withstood the test of time. Love all your writes but this one , most of all. Have a wonderful day , Blessings from my hearth to yours. xo

I sure like what she has accomplished. Rest assured. I understand fully your praises heaped on the source of your enlightenment. I'm glad you feel better about yourself, expressed in poetry like this.

The image reminds me of the time I woke up in the morning amid the Avenue of the Giants and saw the shafts of morning light breaking through the canopy and reflecting off dust in the air from age-old, countless needles breaking down. A moving sight of wonder.
