Far more than commonplace...

by Richard Lloyd Cederberg — Read all 280 poems by Richard Lloyd Cederberg

Each poet dips their pen into their own soul, and then writes their own nature into their words. For the one who is gone now, I will cherish the memory that abides with me, at times even more potent than the living artist. In memory.

Poem Artwork
You were the
refractory soul,
willing to be touched,
in a peculiar kind of faith
reaching out, - round-eyed -
not knowing whether a monster
would eat you, or if you would be
wrapped cozily in the honey of
an unexampled apotheosis…
.
In an arcane way,
it made more sense
when you were ingenuous,
when you desired to be known,
when you journeyed beyond those
dreadful limitations, when you
danced to the tunes
of sage echoes, when you cast
your throbbing heart out upon the
waters of chance and foresaw harvesting…
.
It’s true …
.
Your verve stained me,
and your mysteries lingered,
and when I felt you, and a
flame of curiosity enkindled,
I knew there was more at work
than our self-centered imaginings…
Something was happening that would
absolve the dark places in YOU to illume
a languishing heart eager for more than
the drivel of poetic clambering…
.
And you were more than anyone
could hope for – a vision – an arrant
provoking ghost, an anthem to the bliss
Of sempiternal hypothesis, and you skillfully
worked the magic of shadows and teased…
And when it
was understood
that you were revered,
you began managing those
in your sway with the
shrewdest of brilliance,
even embracing the chesty
Quasimodo types with affected
impressions of humility, while stomaching
backwards reviews and keyboard hieroglyphs,
as if these threadbare distortions were inroads
to some fresh new level of creative nirvana…
.
It was in those days…
.
when light
began fading
from the words,
that YOU became
more human than goddess,
but I held you dear all the same …
.
And now, as
times river winds further
into the distance, and the once
leaping flames of vision have
settled into smoldering
embers,
I call back
those treasured
moments, when the ripples
of stirring between two creative
souls – willing to go beyond limits –
adopted a warming light, and for a season
became [together] far more than commonplace….

A RELATIONSHIP THAT LEADS ONE TO SURELY GIVE CREDENCE TO OUR CREATOR FOR HAVING ENDOWED US WITH THE HUMAN ABILITY OF...RECALL, IS SO BEAUTEOUSLY REVEALED HERE. TO HAVE SHARED A TOUCHING...TO KNOWING...WITH ANOTHER WHICH TRANSCENDED PHYSICAL, AND BATHED IN THE RIVER OF SENSUAL SPIRITUALITY WITH THE REVEALING OF ONE'S SOUL THROUGH POETRY...IS A TIMELESS 'GIFT'. A GIFT THAT IS, INDEED, FAR...FAR MORE THAN COMMONPLACE. A REMARKABLE SHARING, RICHARD...WARM AND SO APPRECIATED. IMMENSELY, SO! THANK YOU FOR THIS KEEPER. Wow! A piece of writing that has to stir the hearts and intellect of anyone conscious. (Sorry for the limited estimation) but, few, without some serious life experience, would even get half of the depth this extraordinary piece provides. Wonderful use of the lexicon of love and compassion, never slipping into soppy or cliche wanderings... of course, that never happens with your talented writing.

Stay with it, my friend. This is what all should be reading... not some inane short hand social media clap-trap waste of time.

This is beautiful. What a lovely tribute to a beautiful soul. How precious is the ability to feel so deeply another's humanity and their divinity. Corrine

Your last verse I find fascinating…

When two creative souls are willing to
push those limits, ‘ magic’ abounds…

A fine poem…

She certainly is beautiful, if that is the image of the one you write of…

And there certainly is creative nirvana the way that I can grasp it.

Your poet, "willing to go beyond limits", just as you as a poet seem to be willing to go beyond limits, to see what can can find. Excellent tribute.
