Memories (that beat like a second heart)

by Richard Lloyd Cederberg — Read all 280 poems by Richard Lloyd Cederberg

I began understanding myself (and my place in life) far better after almost destroying myself. And in the process of fixing myself and healing, I began recognizing who I really was. Love and wisdom are the keys.

Poem Artwork
Come twilight, come mist,
These ever-changing heavens
inspire me to purge
what suppresses loves heartlight
and stays a healthy minds thoughts…
.
Knowing life’s mistakes
were only a life lesson,
not a life sentence,
.
We’ve espoused a way,
you and I, where hope remains,
notwithstanding these
fraught thoughts churning within us,
come they shall, in time they must
yet love will still deliver us
from all that grips us deep within
and stays the hand of reason
.
Come twilight, come mist,
this dark cerulean sky
seeks to arouse us
as the night draws us closer
in a flame of enchantment
.
To again regain
simple sensibilities,
notwithstanding these
broken days that plague us yet,
come they shall, and so they must
still wisdom will deliver us
from all that plagues us deep within
and causes us to suffer
.
Some days, I relive
my hearts deafening silence,
where hard memories
dwell within what they quicken,
and beat like a second heart…
.

This is a splendidly musical piece of writing. Reading through once only caused me to read it all again and aloud. Neither too long nor too short, these lines are wonderful in what they say and the rhythm they have. The fifth stanza is my favorite. Lovely in silence, but spoken the lines are even more beautiful. Excellent* ~~ djl

You and I have taken different paths but with similar struggles. There is always a special gem in your words..that beat like a second heart.

Richard, this touched me so deeply. Knowing myself, loving myself did not come quickly or easily. Such a beautiful poem of ties that bind. My favorite part, "Knowing life’s mistakes were only a life lesson, not a life sentence" Thank God for mercy and grace. One of the best poems I've ever read.

Life..a journey that often requires courage
and self forgiveness…
When we reach that point in the healing
process…Hope and peace can be regained…
and Twilight’s magic can continue to enchant…

A sensitively written and thoughtful piece of writing…
One for my library…

ONE CAN ONLY GIVE GOD ALL THE GLORY WHEN THEY ARE BLESSED TO HAVE LIVED LONG ENOUGH SO THAT 'ALL MEMORIES' BECOME A TREASURED FRIEND...WHEREBY, WHETHER HIGH OR LOW, THEY CAN 'APPRECIATE' EACH AND EVERY ROAD THAT LED THEM TO WHERE THEY PRESENTLY FIND THEMSELVES. ENJOYED THE POETIC ARTISTRY OF THIS POST...IN EVERY WAY! THANK YOU FOR SHARING, MY FRIEND. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS

Aging certainly does mellow the mind. And you have quite eloquently described that process so personally that it can be believed. I am glad that I have not, "fraught thoughts churning within," that cause me fear or anger that I would take out on others.

Like you have written, experience enables us to weather whatever comes along.

Healing is a long road, one I would never encourage anyone to take without warning them that it may break them in the process. It takes courage. So much pain, so many days of crying and unknowingness on the journey toward self-awareness, self-realization. Love and wisdom are the keys we strive to find so we may unlock our own mysteries, discovering they were in our hands all along! We hold the keys to the doors within ourselves. Good for you! You are on your way. The journey is a process, everything revealed at the right time and in the right way. Thank you for expressing your moment of realizing the truth in such a heartfelt and beautiful way.

Ah, you had me at the title Richard, and then to poem took me away to a place of understanding. How wise the heart becomes when twilight gently falls upon us, and leaves us in total awe, sometimes surprising us with aha moments of Grace. Thank you for your eloquent poem today,
have a wonderful blessed weekend. :)
