RULES (defining what is and what aren't)

by Richard Lloyd Cederberg — Read all 280 poems by Richard Lloyd Cederberg

Poetic construct is life purged, is at times unclear, is vulnerable to attack, is a mystery, is limitless, and, if writers are brave enough to share, it can often evoke what honestly broods in a person’s heart and soul. “To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.” RW Emerson

Poem Artwork
Fashioned
by the hand of
Light & purpose,
each soul meticulously
created, and then bestowed
talents in a convoluted system
at a time wholly befitting
the Creators purposes,
pure cisterns
quenching
varied travelers, each
in a quest of asylum from
the nemesis of self-provocation
.
Take a drink of
.
curative waters to
counteract the effects
of faultless narcissism,
similitude as a conjuration
impeding the seekers soul,
torpor as a code of belief,
placing brick upon brick
hoping to achieve
a singular sensible thing
in the vast chronicles of time
.
Raise awareness, and then rebuke
.
Ionian ideals given to
the follies of thaumaturgy,
pharmaceutics, lawlessness,
ancient cultures awakened
as baffled geneses search
for significant
crystalline-bases
to build lives upon,
at first, strong
self-built structures,
becoming in time like
fouled dark dungeons for one
to vanish into, or be buried beneath
.
True seekers trammeled by
.
a scourge of
aesthetic egoism,
wispy post-modernism
retro-fitted with the secret
stingers of irradiated scorpions,
myriad snobbish imitators
overwhelming the
guileless with hokum; and
those that beguile the rootless with
RULES, defining what is and what aren’t
the accepted colors of a Poet’s expression…

"Just another brick in the wall." (Pink Floyd) Came to my mind as I read this. We always have to be careful of rules. Some help us get along and work and work together, but others may lead us down the wrong path if we don't pay close attention.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YR5ApYxkU-U The video where the teacher chastises a boy in school for writing poetry. I missed my chance when I was in Huntington, West Virginia in 1974 when Little Girl Productions brought Pink Floyd to town.

AMEN, I AGREE. 'RULES' ARE WONDERFUL BUT I AM HERE TODAY BECAUSE I FOLLOW 'HIM' WHO REFUSED TO LIVE BY 'RULES'. INDEED, I AM OF THE PERSUASION THAT ONE OF THE GREATEST GIFTS A WRITER CAN GIVE TO ANYONE WHO HAPPENS TO READ THEIR WORK IS THE GIFT OF...PURE HONESTY. SURELY THE WORLD SO FULL OF READERS THAT CONSUME ON DIFFERENT LEVELS...IT WOULD SEEM, INDEED, THAT OUR 'UNIVERSAL MUSE' SEEKS TO FEED A VARIETY OF READERS IN NUMEROUS WRITINGS THAT ARE DEFINITELY OUTSIDE OF THE 'RULES'. AND I, FOR ONE, AM VERY HAPPY ABOUT THIS. THUS, ACKNOWLEDGING THAT WE ALL COME FROM DIFFERENT BACKGROUNDS, WITH DIFFERENT 'CALLINGS' WE MUST STRIVE TO GIVE WHAT WE ARE INSPIRED TO SHARE IN WHATEVER CAPACITY(HIGH OR LOW)THAT IT MIGHT BE, KNOWING THAT THE 'INTENDED' THAT IS... SOMEONE, SOMEWHERE, WILL COMPLETELY GRASP THE MESSAGE. FOR, WE KNOW...THAT HE WHO INSPIRES... NEVER MAKES A MISTAKE. ENJOYED SO MUCH RICHARD. THANK YOU IMMENSELY. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS.

Some curative and critical thinking went into this engaging treatise on the realities that truly justify close attention. You've touched on so many oft-ignored principles that constitute many of the maladies reducing the race to primitive behavior. Well done, Richard. We need more thought-provoking messages such as this to make our days vigorous and purposeful. Thank you for posting.
