Somebody said I was getting old. Can you immagine that?

Poem Artwork

This morning I awoke and painfully crept out of my bed

I stretched and rubbed my eyes, feeling repulsed by the aching in my head

I was reminded once again that I was not getting any younger, that's for sure

This is one of the disadvantages of growing to be more mature

I slowly stood up painfully and tottered to the bathroom

As I passed the mirror I was once more and devastatingly reminded of my doom

The reflection in the mirror was that of decrepit old man, weak and frail

His hair was thin his eyes looked tired and his skin was wrinkled and pail

I began to brush my teeth, at least the teeth that I still had

And it suddenly dawned on me that I looked just like my dad

Oh the predicament of growing old is that it comes on without your knowing

Then suddenly and unexpectedly you realize it’s been growing

I am an old man; my days living here on on earth are now numbered sadly

But I have lived a good life and my prayer is I won’t end it badly

I thank God for each day I'v lived, my wife and each of my three offspring

I pray that for each blessing received I have been able to make an offering

Amen

And it suddenly dawned on me that I looked just like my dad

I had that same startling revelation recently. But after awhile, I realized that it was an honor to look like my father.

Keep On, Keepin On, my friend.

The Wholly Book of Genesis by Jay Dubya

The Wholly Book of Genesis is a humorous satire on the first book of the Old Testament where the Story of Creation, the building of Noah's Ark, Sodom and Gomorrah and the families of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob are thoroughly spoofed and broadsided.
