I resented the attention he got at first, while so many struggled with or without even their family's support. But he stood fast and got Congress's attention. Because of him, the 'cure' is in sight. For that I am grateful.
Amen and Amen to both these sentiments, Ronald. You are both wonderful testimonies to the true spirits of bravery and overcoming. Whilst not wholly appreciating the "gifts" of our fully-able bodies, many of us neglect the truly important inner-lives of our beings and fail to develop our full potential of character which is so apparent in you and dear Chris. Yes he didn't waste all that attention on himself, he used it for others and for that we should all be grateful and honor him. This touched my heart Ron.
I honestly had not read much of the poems with regards Mr. Reeves recent death, just felt it was just another famous person dying, but this particular poem did speak from the point of view of another "chair bound" person and I thought it to be a very strong portrait of that handicap...I would love to see you and all others that are chair bound dance away and I will join you in that dance, while throwing that chair in the trash of life forever...Peace, Ed & Rufuz
Excellent tribute to a wonderful man. He truly proved that many problems are not seen unless they have a face. For people with his disability, he was (and still is)that face.
i can understand the early resentment--it's because he was famous and had access to the best medical care and many, many others don't. but you're right, he believed in spinal cord research and a cure may be around the corner. i pray his death doesn't end the interest and funding for this vitally important mission.

Very good poem, Phil. I like the rhyme. But, when a woman has an abortion, it can be just as crippling emotionally. A lifetime of PTS and in and out of counseling. They think, like I, that they won't be affected. It's on down the road when it hits you big.
