Great forward thrusting rhythm and crackling with war's fierce imagery. I just watched my 3 part DVD I own on the Normandy landings so this was fresh in my mind. The re-stored video and actual sounds on the beaches really bring home your last few stanzas. Is there nothing you can't write a poem about?
I've always wonders whose side GOD is on during war. Certainly in the Old Testament HE favored Israel in their conflicts, but then there were times when HE brought hell against them for their disobedience and foolish behavior. Sadly though, I believe that no one is prepared for what's coming in the near future.
You have written it well, Ron. What a sad time, I wonder if anyone truly believed that they would actually survive to secure that beach. So many lost...so many families altered forever, and all stop the forward motion of the enemy and to keep them from securing Europe. I have always wondered why those who lived in that land did little to nothing to save themselves. I swear to you that I would give my dyeing breath hurtling a rock, if that is all that I had, in a last ditch effort to defend my Country and those I love. Your images are stark and your words straight up. Excellent work, Ron.
