Tried out some old phone numbers
the other day, found that old friends
were eager to talk and reconnect.
And then, I got an unexpected email
from a former colleague I had tried
to reach to no avail.

Reconnecting

A life is full of passing glances,
chance meetings, and chance enhances.

Connections come and connections go,
all a part of life's ebb and flow.

Some connections freely give,
for they teach us how to live.

Some connections come with cost,
leaving memories of what we've lost.

But, in the fullness of time,
most connections are lost,
regardless of reason,
regardless of ryhme.

It is only when we come to the end of the road,
that connections we gather began to goad.

Us on to recover the connections we lost,
under the cover of busy and cost.

Alas, some cannot be regained,
they have passed on, unclaimed.

But pick up the telephone,
pick up the pen.
Get on the Internet,
and search once again.

There is nothing like reconnecting,
to your family or an old friend.

So, what are you waiting for?
Reconnect again.

You give a lot of thought to todays times and reconnecting! I think about how my grandparents connected in their days, that shared phone line and how everyone knew everything! hahaha...I liked this very much Ron! I am glad we have the resources we do, to connect to our friends, especially when we need them!!!

Thanks for sharing

Great write Ron, and it is very true.
I am going to take your advice and pull out some of my old phone numbers and e-mail addresses. Who knows what may happen? I just might reconnect with a few friends lost along the way. Worth a try I believe.
Thanks again, and continued success.

Ron,

I did just that and found my best friend in my high school days! I was so happy to have found her again.

An elegantly written reminder of all the past, loved acquaintances that have taken different paths and simply lost touch.
The rhythm of the poem urges us on...
May your quill continue to soar!

With respect,

Very beautiful write, we are all connected and it is always so wonderful to reconnect with one who brought positivity into our lives, as for the negative ones, no use reconnecting, some stories are best left burried. Thanks for sharing :-)

As we grow older, we really figure out who are friends are. "Now the way I see it, I'm a very lucky man, tho' I can count my campadres on just one hand...." (from "Friends") Of course, this number doesn't include the real friendships that I have made at AD. And it doesn't cost a thing to look a stranger in the eye and say, "Good morning."

Really great delivery to this, Ron, in terms of how well you've crafted your metre and rhyme along with the upbeat exhortation of your message. It has an urgency and an energy which really compels us, almost like the ring of a phone itself! Yep, I can testify to how satisfying these reconnections can be... it's almost like recovering a part of your former life you thought was forever lost. :)) xx

Being retired military I can relate to this, timelss and inspiring write. I am truly surprised how differening memories are from the past. Some I remember as best friends, best man at my weddings as well, hardly remember me at all. I remember every detail, but we are strangers in this day. Others I thought to be casual friends remember me in detail as a close friend. My memory seems to be better than most. Time changes all things I guess.

Stay well and keep writing

A sentiment well-stated, Ron. One of your best.
I recently discovered peoplesmart.com. It has name, age, addresses and date of death for those who are gone. I found several old friends who had passed on, but was able to find their spouses or families.

Good advice :-) Just put out the thought to the universe and often a connection happens when we can do it our selves.

So true. I reconnected with my best buddy in the army after 35 years and it was almost like we'd just seen each other yesterday except that we had a lot of experiences to talk about.

What's most interesting for me about this work is the gradual stanza by stanza realization that our ability to connect by choice, our ability to use the web and find lost connections, is rather astounding.
