The Mind

The mind is a river of ever flowing thoughts,
it crosses as many do nots as oughts.

And ideas, the mind has, a plenty,
certainly when it comes to making money.

There is no "heart" in the heart, only mind,
but for some, rest assured, it's in the behind.

For the heart is a necessary pump,
providing oxygen to the mindful  rump.

There is no "soul" in the body--only mind,
and when the spark of life is gone,
no soul is ever left behind to find.

The mind spends its idle time,
sorting out its input streams,
the sorting becomes most vivid,
when encountering dreams.

So many put their minds to waste,
in trivial pursuits, or in their haste,
for easy solutions to complex thoughts,
following others' ideas to their taste.

The mind can solve complex tasks,
to questions that nearly no one asks.

The mind can be molded to certain beliefs,
by deviant people with thoughts of thieves.

The mind is "a terrible thing to waste."
It must be exercised and not remain chaste.

For ignorance is the unused mind,
where so many are left behind.

We have only so much time left to think,
so use your mind now because it's gone in a blink.

Great advice in this poem, Ron. Thank you! Love and peace to you,

Just like we need education, we need to use our minds. Put to use can be helpful in many ways.

Must keep on stimulating our mind, giving it new things
to think about an allowing it to continually grow.

Always,

Much said in this prolific write. Most take for garnted the working of one's mind and it's natural to do so until something happens to change it , such as Alzhiemers.

WONDERFUL WORK! YES, WITH THE HEART AND SOUL FUELING, THE MIND HAS THE ABILITY TO BIRTH BEAUTIFUL AND BENEFICIAL ACCOMPLISHMENTS FAR BEYOND ITS PRESENT 'LIMITED' ABILITIES THAT IS WASTED ON THE STRATEGIES OF CONFLICT, WAR AND GENOCIDE. SO NOW THAT I REALLY THINK ABOUT IT? THE MIND...UNLEASHED, WITHOUT ANY CONSTRAINTS, COULD BE DISASTROUS! THANK GOD, ALL THINGS ARE IN 'HIS' VERY WISE AND CAPABLE HANDS...HE HOLDS THE STRINGS! A THOUGHT PROVOKING WORK, RONALD...THANK YOU. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS

The words themselves would be very powerful; but the way you divided the lines into verses made for an amazing flow of thought process.

Interesting viewpoint. Not the romanticism expected from a poet :). But... A mind is indeed a terrible thing to waste. Even though it's only electricity and chemistry in the brain muscle. Good one, Ron.

"The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift. We will not solve the problems of the world from the same level of thinking we were at when we created them.
More than anything else, this new century demands new thinking: We must change our materially based analyses of the world around us to include broader, more multidimensional perspectives"-Albert Einstein.

I am so glad that you've mentioned left behind, for if many don't use their minds now, they shall be left behind. A lovely poem, thanks for sharing, Ron!

Minds are all different and tune in and turn on to so many varied things, but as long as we're using the one we got, then we can live a life that's wired and fired EVERY day, irrespective of our other capacities. Like this very much, Ron, but am exercised about soul, Man, which seems to exist outside the mechanics of being, rather than being housed within it. It's as elusive to locate as the microphysics of the Big Bang - more so, probably. But we're all here though, ain't we, one way or another... at least, I think so?! :) xx

Using the mind is exercising the mind. It's when we stop exercising it that it gets weak. Write on!

Love ya!

Well done, Ron - My favorite definition of soul is this - "'Soul' is not a thing, but a quality or a dimension of experiencing life and ourselves. It has to do with depth, value, relatedness, heart and personal substance." Thomas Moore - Jan

How so very true. And I don't Mind, being Re-Minded of this, from time to time. Thanks.

Your poem makes perfect sense but only if we have a soul.
Otherwise, why bother?

Knowing I'm probably in the minority, I've come to accept that, i.e., for many of us, the heart has been the mind's worst enemy. It is very arguable that the emotions of the heart give many an upset to the mind. Would that everyone could agree not to exile the heart for the sake of the mind, but merely address it as a necessary partner for the fulfillment of the mind...kind of like a domestic relationship that works, ya know?

Making the case for mental excercise is becoming fashionable I think. A computer and access to games of mental excercise have helped my 84 year old mother. So just as we take a walk with our legs, we should take a walk with our minds also. A great subject here Ron. Just thinking about what you're saying is a mental excercise. Bob

Couldn't agree with you more, Ron. You took the "mind" and spoke of it as it should be spoken of. The "heart?" I again agree completely. I suppose when they say "I love you with all my heart," there could be some measure of truth there, for when the heart stops, so does the love. That is unless you are one of the believers in reincarnation. I'm thinking much more positive in its behalf than ever before. Good poem. Excellent thoughts.
