Our youth are growing up playing very
violent video games that emulate situations
that we see on the news. We are able to
buy weapons of war for personal use and
can express our opinions online among
like-minded people to spread hatred, bigotry
and violence as a solution to our particular
points of view or mental instability. Like the
game of war itself that used to be played out
by nations against nations, the capability has
now arrived at the household level. Are you armed
to the teeth? What for? Hatred or protection?
These violent video games once took away my patience.. I never noticed it at first.. Are they preparing us for a post apocalyptic world? OR just ruining compassion needed by us.. Whatever it is, choice is in us.. Dare not be a victim of their conditioning..
I've always thought that those sickening video games were the cause for so much violence with our youth playing war games and that stupid grand theft auto which is overly violent never did care for violent games if any thing they should be banned

Sad that in this country today so many parents would rather buy their kids these horrid games rather than deal with parenting. What you have written is the truth.
I thought the guns were to blame,
All over the world it seems the same,

Great timely poem, Ron!! The young people seem to take everything more aggressively than we did when we were their age.
America has gone to hell recently. I hope Americans are still safe in their own country. Even me - I live in Canada - we still can't guarantee ourselves we will always be safe. Time changes everything, and changes people. I'm praying for all my American friends.

I personally don't think video games contribute
to teenagers wanting to kill. I played army
while growing up, Cowboys and Indians, "West
Side Story. I knew in my mind what make believe
was...these teens that commit these horrendous
acts do not have a conscious.
Everything seems to be a damned game to so many these days, including our so called 'leaders' and 'wannabe leaders.' And, of course, none of them are to blame.
I AGREE WITH CLARENCE, YOU HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD RONALD. THE VERY AIR OF THIS PLACE IS TAINTED WITH THE PRESENCE OF...GODLESSNESS! AT THE ROOT OF EVERY VILE ACT IN THIS WORLD IS THE LACK GOD. FOR A BELIEF IN GOD WOULD PUT HIS LOVE IN EVERY HEART, MIND AND SOUL AND THUS, EVERYTHING DONE WOULD BE TO 'HIS' GLORY. Our immediate world has become a tinder box where the least little infraction gives someone the notion they can "take someone out." Then, there's warped ideology from every fringe group there is, wreaking havoc either through rhetoric or armed attack.
It isn't a game, Ron. It is insanity on parade. And so many of them are lured into the violence that ISIS spreads. They recruit them on the Internet. But, oh I agree with you. I hate them one and all. Unleash our police and quit being so afraid to speak up about them as the neighbor of the San Bernardino was because he feared he would be accused of being racist. We have gone much too far in the "racist" thought process in America.
And now, as we add VR headsets, the reality of the beast-like behavior can nurture a whole new generation of wannabe fascists and demagogues, needing to use violence to make them feel they are somebody. Looking at Ted Cruz's new TV spot this morning brought acid reflex to my tongue, and that was before I'd completed the viewing. Watching Trump's speech from last night's NC event was even worse. The media is dancing all over the black flag waving and the subsequent bodies with all the vitriol of another kind of violence: rating points. As you say, "I'm not to blame," oh, but we are. Everyone creates their own reality and what they/we believe is...as far as they/we are concerned. What ever happened to rational logic as a principal of sentience?
