It seems like all these conveniences and distractions have cut into relationships between family and friends. We all need to learn how to listen again even though it may be hard to hear with all of the things running around in our heads while we are supposed to be listening to those who are talking.

Hard of Hearing

I'm so hard of hearing,

from you these fine days.

But grateful for many calls,

in so many creative ways.

So many offers,

and surveys to take.

So much money gone,

in their aftermath wake.

But I'm not hearing,

from you hardly at all.

And you talk like a machine,

whenever you call.

I diligently input,

every word that you say.

Except on your Facebook page,

I zone out on when you prey.

With more ways to communicate,

constantly coming around the bend,

everyone's getting hard of hearing,

from their family and friends.

So, try to take a moment, slow down,

from your cell phone distracted day,

and give an old friend or family a call.

Learn to hear again in an old/new way.

I agree. I feel my mind flying in a millions directions that I can't gather my thoughts. I need to sit back and listen. I used to be a great listener.

I went out today for a ride just to get out of the house and forgot my cell phone (oh my, horrors) and was thinking I wish there were still phone booths around, just in case for those of us that are getting so forgetful that we don't bring out cell phones either on purpose or...-e-

Sadly, such is the case in this high tech world. The more advanced it is the less people will communicate face to face. People talk to each other but don't listen to each other while their heads are down looking into the cellphones. No one is listening!

I have come to the conclusion that the cellphones are the most destructive in human relationships that was ever invented!

"everyone's getting hard of hearing,

from their family and friends."

Sadly true! So hard to stay connected and really listen to what another person is saying in this fast-paced world. I went to see family yesterday, but with the televisoon blaring, I kept losing my train of thought and could hardly hear them. I hate the tv being on when I'm with someone. I can't focus. My limitation maybe. Still, less is more when it come to being with another person.

Learn to hear again...yep!

You really do touch upon such an important point here in this vital poem, about the importance of listening and yes hearing. I especially like the last line, learning again the "old way" in a "new way", for our age and time, very timely.

Great advice!! I know many youth who can't carry on a regular conversation due to their phones being their means of communication. They will be in the same fricking room and communicate with each other on their phones!!!!! I'd better quit while I'm ahead. Thought provoking poem, Ron!!! xo

Love ya!

"So, try to take a moment, slow down,"

Absolutely, Ron . . . We are all seemingly on the fast track to hell and back. (and back?) . . . The modern age is much too fast for a lot of us (me included). As many devices that we have to communicate we lack the wherewithall to actually reach out to those we need to.
