Poem Artwork

They sometimes come scattered
across the tapestry of the mind
fragments of thoughts
bits and pieces to be put together
like a puzzle.

Sometimes they come in tidy bundles
tied up neatly like a gift from a lover
beautiful and perfect in concept.

However they come they are demanding
screaming for attention and action
threatening to disappear if not tended to.

We grasp at them, calling them our own
but are they really ours, these wonders
crafted from afar yet claimed by us.

The magic of this thing we do
this world of ours, our poetry.

"but are they really ours, these wonders
crafted from afar yet claimed by us"

I often wonder about that. So many time, I will awaken from seemingly dreamless sleep -- with a full-blown poem singing in my head, already written, and all I have to do is copy it down. The really strange thing is that some of these poems are in a style which is uncommon for me. So ... maybe some angels are poets with new songs to be heard. And, when we die, will we whisper our new songs in the mind of some sleeper?

Probably poetry is what make us a notch above the barbarians.
But we need to reminded now and then from a gifted poetess.

Marcia,
Perfectly said...the second stanza simply excellent and the most wished for if that happens, but then there's something to be said for the struggle, too. Love your points of view in this.

This is so true. Just yesterday as I was raking leaves I thought of a poem and it simply flowed into my head. When I got inside I tried remember it and it was gone completely. Great write that I enjoyed reading.
