HOW CAN WE HANDLE SETBACKS
A friend called and expressed her setback.
“I didn’t get the job. I am a little bit disappointed.”
“No big deal, child,” I replied.
“No big deal! I have no job.”
“But you have life.”
“So what, if I can’t eat.”
“With life everything is possible,” I encouraged.
“I don’t know.”
“Don’t despair about your situation. Find something fun to do so you could counter the feeling.”
“I‘m too sad to do anything.”
“Why not try?” I ask.
“I have no energy left, I’m tired of trying to survive.”
“But you don’t need to survive. You just need to live, regardless of your circumstances.”
I convinced my friend to take a hike with me. Before we even got to the trailhead, I could see a new energy emerging from her face. She was laughing and talking just having the time of her life.
That’s how I handle setbacks.
I handle setback
By not looking back
Pretending it’s merely a soundtrack
That gets lost inside a wisecrack
A setback is simply a sidetrack
That helps us to get back on track
Sometimes, we may need to pull back
From what may become a real drawback
Occasionally, our lives need to repack
So our souls can unpack
From under the hayrack
Or we’ll end up with a hunchback
Life is not a snack
We‘re made to handle “setback”
Even when our existence looks like a bushwhack
We don’t have to follow the wrong racetrack
We’ll always get back on track
No matter how hard the cutback
So let’s hope for a nice comeback
Be happy and don’t look back
