Poem Artwork

A break from Christmas chores
out on the porch that I adore
birds twittering in twilight
soft grey and purple hues
rain just misty no more pour
nightshades  covering daystar
oh life! how wonderful you are
to provide such varied scenes
if only thankful eyes are keen
another tableau appears soon
birds gone to nest no more tune
with the clearing a silver moon
 for nocturnal chorus to croon
 sky filled with diamonds bright
against black and indigo of night
streetlights pierce what is hidden
darkness brings on the forbidden
time to do those evening things
to be content with how it sings
how can one ever say they're bored
with the beauty that nature affords
now I have Anisette cookies to bake
the ones my friends ask me to make
so into the kitchen with a flurry
a happy holiday to all, sans the worry

Anisette cookies, yummy, my Nana (Sicilian grandmother) made these, it brought tears a bit to my eyes, missing her a little..Thank you for the memory of her Anisette cookies and your poem is just so beautiful..

Yes yes yes, how gorgeous and warm are the words and feelings your poem creates.
Such gratitude indeed.

I guess here it's scones rather than cookies that get baked/cooked...

Eileen, I love anisette cookies too, they are my favorites. I loved the beauty in this writing...it was full of God's beauty and your voice spoke your words in a homey, enjoying way...I could all but hear the twittering of the birds as the mist hit my face. This truly lights up the evening.

Dear Eileen,

We all need breaks, now & then, from life's chores. A fresh breath of nature and an exhale of gratitude always helps to bring things back into perspective.

May this Season of Light bless your heart,
Joseph*
