How do you heal
A shattered heart?
How do you breathe
When your spirit has fled?
How do you continue
Putting one foot
In front of the other
When there's no road left
To follow?
It feels as if
The pulse of my life itself
Stopped
When you walked away,
Leaving only my innate
Will to survive
To carry me forward.
I've been hurt before but
Never to the point
That total darkness threatened
To consume me.
How is it possible
To have given so much
Of myself away?
So much that may never
Be reclaimed?
It will take a
Rebirthing,
The creation of
A new person
Where once I had been;
Someone stronger,
Wiser,
More resilient;
Someone capable of
Forgiveness,
But also someone
Incapable of
Forgetting;
Someone born from ruins,
Returning tempered with
Resolve;
Someone you created
But you'll never,
Ever,
Be allowed to
Know it.
