Little girl alone
Wandering the schoolyard,
Where are your friends?
I do not have any,
She replies,
They make fun of me
And they call me names.
Why? I ask.
Because I am strange.
Why do you say that?
I am not like them.
In what way? I wonder.
I am me,
I am not them.
I want them to like me
Because I am me,
Not because
I am like them.
I smile tenderly
As I hug her tightly;
My dear, I croon,
You are not strange,
You are simply
An individual,
And one day,
I promise you,
You will shine
In your own light
And they will no longer
Think you are strange.
They will see what I see:
A good heart,
A kind soul, and
Most importantly,
They will see YOU
With all that you are
And what you have
To offer.
Then they will wonder
Where did she go,
That little girl

She is before you
Right where
She always was.
This reads like a ribbon of kindness, Rebecca. Either you experienced this yourself on both ends of that ribbon, or you are keenly aware of this exchange. The questions, the answers. And the beauty of this piece of writing is in the questions, and the answers. Lovely, poignant, true-to-life, hopefully some day when we are a more evolved species, no longer true-to-life. It can cause such internal pain and will always be remembered,
It can also seriously affect self esteem.
On the other hand self reliance and a determined character
can also be the result of suffering in this way…
Bringing up our children to be kind hearted to all is probably
the best way to prevent it..

It must be terrible to be neglected in the playground. Not asked to join in the fun. I can relate because others dismissed me when it came to games thinking I couldn't play after I was paralyzed, even if I could. But often those who are left out tend to be exceptional later in life and stand out far beyond the others.

While I never became a cowboy, considering everything I have done
TRUE STORY. Bella survived an abusive powerbroker father with organized crime ties, a drug-addicted mother and a physically/sexually abusive brother. Shocking & inspirational. When she couldn't cry, she tattooed a crying angel to cry for her.
