Once upon a time
We met over
An eighth grade
Art table.
You were so funny,
You and your friends,
Quick with a joke
And always ready
With a quick come back,
A real master of
Repartee.
And I remember
Feeling wonder,
And no little envy, at
Your incredible skill,
Your undeniable talent,
As an artist.
But, eventually, as it was
For military brats,
Our families went
Their separate ways
And we lost touch.
I often wondered
Over the decades that followed,
Whatever happened to him?
And I would often smile
When I remembered those
Days in class.
Then came the day
When I received an email
From out of the blue
From you.
Once again you have me
Smiling with
Your humor and
Your way of looking at
The world,
And I am grateful for
The benevolent universe
For giving me the gift
Of your presence and
Your friendship in
My life.

A longtime friend has had trouble with her computers and the Internet. But recently, she's become quite proficient with her mobile phone. Several times I tried to give her an email address, and she either failed to use it, or forgot about it. I called her yesterday about the storms we had and asked if she had an email address. I went back to where I had kept her information and there was an email address there, but when I repeated to her, she told me it was wrong and corrected it. After that I sent her two emails. No response yet.
We all have those "what if" people in our hearts and minds that we look back and wish we had of had the chance to see what would have been. You are lucky to have gotten that second chance and your heart speaks in this delightful poem.
