I've never felt
As if I belonged,
I was somehow separate
From those around me,
From family to friends
No different than strangers.
I envied those
Who were grounded,
Who knew who they were
And from whence they came,
Who were comfortable enough
Within themselves
To feel at home
Most anywhere.
All my life I've searched
For that place I felt a part of.
I've found land that I loved,
Cultures that I loved,
But with people
I felt set apart.
My lifelong loneliness
Is born of this,
Yet I hope that one day
I'll stumble upon
Where I'm meant to be,
Not just where
I ended up.
I dream of a home
That breathes life
Into the hearth of
My heart.
I am one of those who feel at home anywhere and everywhere, perhaps a product of solitude rather than loneliness. I am often alone, but I am not lonely. A fine poem, inspiring thoughts.
