On a Christmas Eve night
all the world seemed right
When Santa rose from his sleep
The jingle bells tingling
their jingling sound mingling
with the caroling elves in the street
The snow was gently falling
and the elves were calling
silly holiday jokes to each other
The fat turkey was roasted
And Mrs. Santa boasted
it would be the best meal ever
The toys were all ready done
for the boy's and girl's fun
The giant sleigh was loaded down
Santa was ready for his magic run
Nowhere was a frown to be found
Elves cheered as they gathered round
The reindeer team harnessed in place
Santa developed a frown on his face
Oh my, he cried, what shall we do?
All the reindeer have come down with flu!
Comet is coughing, Blitzen is barfing
And Cupid is sneezing... Achooo
I can’t expect these reindeer to fly
all night long through the sky
Coughing, barfing, sneezing, noses red
when they really should be home in bed
What shall I do, this problem is new?
Santa said as he scratched his white head
And then at his boot-clad feet
Santa heard the voices sweet
of all ten of his lively Jack Russells
Forget the reindeer they said
take us Jacks instead
hurry up now Santa, let’s hustle
The sleigh was sooo heavy
but the Jacks were psyched and ready
to give the best effort they had
and deliver the big load of toys
to all the good girls and boys
Disappointing them would be too bad
Away into the dark, cold night
the Jack Russell team took flight
and they soared over hill and dale
They were determined canine deer
without any hesitation or fear
and they knew their mission wouldn’t fail
Early Christmas morn
the children could have sworn
they dreamed of puppy dogs all night
They heard tiny prance of paws
and excited yelp of terrier jaws
saw wagging tails neath Christmas tree lights
But the anticipated toys were all there
beautifully laid out with great care
and in each stocking was found
a raw hide chewy bone
a Frisbee of varied tones
and a red rubber ball bouncy round
Santa arrived back at the North Pole
and some tall tales were told
about the Jack Russell reindeer sleigh
After a romp in the snow puppy play
The Jacks ate turkey and slices of beef jerky
then before the fire, slept the day away
Old poem but such a goodie!

I wish there was a picture of the Big Red man and his Jack Russell squad. What a visdual. I love the difference in your Christmas jingle. It is a wwonderment of gaity and woof woofs! I knoe a few Ed's who are gonna love this poem.
I must say a Christimas tale well expressed. So fun loving with a slight twist, but the day was saved and that is what it is all about. Love this one...
Plan "J" [jack terriers] to the rescue. It would have been awful to have the reindeer get really, really sick, or for the children to have no toys. This is wonderfully lighthearted and brings a huge smile to my face. Thank YOU!
