icy fingers grasping heart
boots mired into snowdrifts
walking alone on a long road
breath exhaled in steam clouds
as lungs ache from artic air
snow has left everything equal
the high and low places similar
a lonely road, one warmed only
by the inward fire of your soul
hunger gnawing at your gut
for something…to fill the void
on the horizon only more snow
and you’re feeling the hope
slip out of your world tonight
Christmas only intensifying
emotions of isolated sorrow
remembering long ago hearth
where blazed the fires of home
voices only a treasured memory
carols of joy release fountains
of tears for those gone from
around past bounty of table
recall, when journey takes you
on that shivered path of alone,
those who cannot walk at all
those who have no food to eat
no warmth of hearth or memory
to thaw hearts chilled by pain
so travel with head held high
with thankful heart for blessings
too long you’ve taken for granted
even the smallest of blessings
should not grace days unnoticed
remember the one who promised
you would never travel alone
call into remembrance Eternal Father
who owns the cattle grazing on
a thousand hills....and the hills
whose mercy to thee is everlasting
and find sure shelter in the hope
brought to all people on Christmas
by God’s angels singing anthems
of praise to the Prince Of Peace
Belle, the photograph is breathtaking --a scene from "It's a Wonderful Life" -- and your poem, filled memories, sorrow and loneliness, yet in the end promising the hope we all seek -- how absolutely marvelous for this Christmas Day we are about to celebrate -- your inspiring words warm my heart Belle -- peace and love to you my friend -- Jon Michael
If this poem were a coat it would be woven of mink and angelic enchantment, wrapped snugly around the shoulders of a newly-inspired soul walking through the chilly image posted above the title of SNOWY ROAD AT CHRISTMAS. Much gratitude for the shared magic of your poetic splendor that sings so beautifully through these lines and the brilliant body of literary works that you have produced over the years.
Sometimes these are the words you wish to hear, read or to be told, because, when your senses are assaulted by doubts always it will be a need for phrases of comfort.
This poem is so humble and serene. I could feel the coldness of the snowy road, and the longing for some rest from the weary.
Nice pen Belle as always, I enjoy your poetry!
Much peace, love, and light,

Hi LaBelle, This poem was wonderful because it reminds us what we have and to be grateful for it. As always this piece was flawless.
I would like to wish YOU and your loved ones a very blessed Christmas.
Such beauty in these lines of wisdom: counting blessings. Much richer than many, not financially, but loved by my God and Savior beyond measure; a roof, overhead; food in my stomach. Friends. The gift of poetry. What more shall I need? Thank you, well done. Merry Christmas.
