Some think religion is the true route through pearly gates
they pray, tithe and “church” but their brother they hate
teach sunday school on sunday but get drunk saturday night
speak kindly to the pastor, cuss and yell at husband or wife
oh come on now, you know it’s true , they’ll be so lovey to you
then one day, without a clue, they’ll revile you out of the blue
some like to stand in pulpits and tell the rest of us how to live
better dig down into your pockets brother and give, give, give
‘cause God loves a cheerful giver so smile as you say farewell
to all those hard earned dollars; if you don’t, you’ll go to hell
oh come on now, friend, I’ve seen it all, as no doubt, have you
don’t ask how your money is spent, a yacht. a sports car or two?
some interpret holy scriptures to mean what they want them to
and they expect the same interpretation from me and from you
laying heavy legal burdens on your aching back from day to day
then claim you were destined to be lost if you dare to get away
religion is an empty cup, you and I both are aware that it’s true
and if you have only a left foot you can’t wear a right foot shoe
if you try so hard to fit in and think others know more than you
you give away your will, your soul, until about God you haven’t a clue
we’re not the doctrine we spout but the love we show, what’s worse
man’s poisonous religion won’t cure you.... if it don’t kill you first

Trouble with hypocrites? It is a wonder that God loves us at all. Not everyone is as you describe them, but I would say there are some. We're all just human. Ever notice how quickly children catch onto lying? Flawed we are. Makes us more in need of God though. I hope I have met some of those standards. I like to think that I'm a pretty good job. Maybe the Lord would agree or maybe not. Self delusion is one of those human weaknesses also you know. Interesting read Madame La Rouge. Bob

Belle, I went to church early in my life...I believe
in God's grace and I see where you are coming from-
people, not all, are holier than thou on Sunday and
during the rest of the week not very Christian, I've
seen it.
Hmmm!!..Another interesting poem..reminds me of a line from a song about religion being man made..a very good friend of my mum says..the bible is just a book of fairy tales..I have added a poem i wrote last year..the way i believe God would see things & what he would want..
Belle, a poem that reaches out to the soul of man to seek God's truth, not the corrupted truth of some religious leaders seeking personal wealth and fame.
