he is life-tough and gut honest
a poetic wonder, a distinct voice
taking a reader's hand, leading them
into his world with audacious words
true poet, rough around the edges
never afraid to emphatically express
his views or to boldly challenge yours
not pandering to literary niceties
he has lived too long, he believes
at times when loneliness ambushes
his thoughts in the dark midnights
or unresolved regrets dine at his table
he has realized the congenial company
of a little dog that genuinely loves him
is preferable to that of people who don't
usually being satisfied with such simpatico
a hard living, hard loving, two fisted man
fought his way through a hardscrabble life
found his peace on the bayou, discovered
simple solace in silence, sincerity in solitude
he acquiesced to the tutoring of gray hair
finding it easier to reconcile with his God
than with memories of who he used to be
Jerry reminded me of a Colonel I worked with in the US Air Force, Colonel Fero. Like Jerry, he was so honest he would embarrass many who were full of BS. If I had to go to war, Col Fero and Jerry Bolton would be two I would want by my side. A natural leader cuts through the mustard, has the grit to plow through tough times, and does not stop until victory is won! I love that kind of person! Well done! Amen X 110!
I think Jerry would love to have this read at his "life's celebration," if he were inclined to have one, and he probably isn't.
After all is said and done, this is about as good as it gets to those who take life as it comes and who shake it for all it's worth.
Jerry is a good man, who has come far in his writing talent. I wish one day to meet him & Zoe but I don't get that far south very often. An excellent written word of this mans world...-e-
I won't repeat Jerry's words because they were my thoughts as well. I've had the good fortune of meeting the man and exchanging books. I've only been able to read one… His autobiography that clearly describes his rough-and-tumble life where he created all of his characters and stories. A fine read into his character.
