Very nice, Karla. I can't add anything to what Kate said. The childre DO know, and if we don't cry with them, we lose them. They looks to us for honesty, and to see that we share their grief. To give them any less would be cheating them.
My children have never been fooled, Karla: we're all in this together, and mine have always known that I am no less "a child" in such matters than they are! Much sage advice has been given; we can pretend to be nothing more than who we are and what we know - we can't pull any punches or "make things alright"; but we can share together, work things out together, pool feelings and solutions. Children often voice what many adults are too confused and scared to ask - and don't want to know about! I think that children don't so much look for answers, but to know what we are ourselves thinking... we can't "tell" them much; as Ed says, they already "know". And, like Andy says, you have so much inner beauty which you share with us and bring us together on - you are a natural "peacemaker/bringer" and children would do well to ask these questions of YOU, Karla, for you have words that are worth listening to. Sometimes I think the children know, and care, far more than we adults do. Most children always seem to have some compassion for other beings, yet it often takes a tragedy like this to bring compassion back out in adults.

thanks for bringing this to the forefront, Karla. I have a sixth-grader, 11, who is very attuned to world events and has such a compassionate heart. I find that truth is always best and we talk about the questions more than the answers. but far more important than any words are the hugs and moments together in silence, in prayer, in tears and in joy
I have no children nor have I had any experience with them, but I think that honesty is the best way to go, especially with children...a telling poem, Karla, Ed & Rufuz

to her class of I think sixth graders on tv yesterday.
It was good to see how well they are handling it, yet they
the have fears that need to be discussed with their parents. I hope
the parents make an extra effort to give some time to their
children in listening and offering hope.We also need to pray for
those poor children in asia that are being snatched for sex rings.
This sick goup of people who do this need to be destroyed they can't be human they have to be satans demons! To do that at such a time as
this to poor innocent children. So despicable I had to stop watching
tv!

Children are more attune to what is going on than we may think, and they need to know what is happening to our world, too.
