This poem, "Unconscious Realities: The Storm That Never Ends," is for Phillip (Thunderduck) Allen's challenge.

It describes a recurring dream I have that scares the hell out of me. I don't have it often, but when I do...JAYS.

What is it saying? How can I make it go away??

Poem Artwork

The humid wind has a viscosity
To it that entraps me in a nightmare,
The approaching storm screams like a banshee
And into the face of terror I stare.

The darkening skies brings a moan from me
As I am forced to watch events unfold,
I know what's going to happen, you see
And the blood in my body turns ice-cold.

I attempt to run, from the nightmare flee
But discover that I'm running in place,
I shout a warning to my family
To hide in a spot where they will be safe.

They look at me and tell me I'm crazy
And say I'm over-reacting again,
I find shelter from the catastrophe
And wish I could do something to help them.

Lightning sizzles with increasing fury
And I suddenly hear them scream my name,
Tornadic fingers destroy all I see
But not before they tell me I'm to blame...

And that's when I wake up.

I wish from this nightmare I would be free!!

Now that is one chilling nightmare, Karla. And I truly hope that nightmare never ever becomes a reality.

Karla I regard you as my sister, and I have a recurring nightmare too. But it doesn't come as often as it did, because I have friends who have accepted me as I am, and have given me sound advice and very good reviews. These friends have helped me often in my journey to be the true me physically.

This nightmare may be something you dread, something you fear, something that is just the sad way life is in this dreary world. What I have done, to get rid of my nightmare is, think of something beautiful. Think of the spring that brings forth clear water, into a bubbling brook; or maybe think of clear blue skies, with a wisp of cloud to make it beautiful. Think beautiful thoughts. I do, and it works for me. Try it sis, and see. May the Lord Jesus bless you, and be with you always, and at your side constantly. With much love in my heart, joy to the world, peace on earth, & (((HUGS))), Barbie

Blimey! The picture was enough to chill MY bones... of course, never seen anything like it UK... yet?! I suppose it WOULD be a recurring nightmare if there was a real possibility of it actually happening. Sounds very logical to me. But, like others have said, I can train myself to wake up from my betes noirs now and prayer, I have found, ALWAYS works. At least your nightmare is decent... mine usually involves being found with my pants down, so goodness knows what that means?! :)) LOL and prayers, Kate xx

Visually descriptive and graphic, Karla. Well written! Highly charged emotion here. When it comes to family dynamics, they usually are.

*************************************
A re-occuring nightmare suggests an issue that you have avoided dealing with conciously, so your unconcious mind is working on the problem(and will until you resolve it). Running in place suggests you feel trapped. Shouting a warning to your family to hide in a safe place suggests that you are feeling a wee bit angry at them and look out 'cause I'm about to blow! They arn't taking you seriously, maybe because you've warned them before-all bark and no bite, so to speak.
You feel frustrated and helpless to make them understand why you feel the way you do. You have a fear that you will lose their love and support if you "let it out", and feel some guilt over what you want to do. (Let me know if this makes any sense)

Karla, fantastic response to the challenge! I know you are
working to be rid of these fears. I also know it isn't easy;-).
Keep writing like this and you may get rid of it;-)

Good poem, Karla. You do well with your description. When I was young I used to have a recurring dream about tornados coming toward my parents house and destroying all. I figured out that partially it was the result of seeing the tornado in "The Wizard of Oz" as a young child, and the rest was me trying to release fears related to my family lie in New Orleans. Actually, what TRASK said is correct. Investigate lucid dreaming techniques. Otherwise, a great adn scary read. :-) ~~Nordette
