you say that i am a hero . i did nothing that my brothers or sisters wouldn't have done - and still do : it's like this : when you asked us to serve our nation , we responded ; we have looked into the face of terror ; we felt the scorching heat of battle pass overhead ; we tasted fear on the backs of our tongue every day and cried when we buried our friends who were once strangers .
i am dead : nothing you can say or do will change that . but you can do something for my brothers and sisters - if you want to do something to remember my name , don't forget those that came home when they need you most - they answered the call when you needed their assistance . it's only right you provide them the care that they deserve . don't honor their memories with empty promises .

The money spent giving families flags that make the flag companies more profitable should be issued out for the veterans who come back and can't make a decent wage, thanks to the economic uplift of war. Excellent Poem Sis. Karla,

Choking and acrid, as it should be told, Karla... I hope that those to whom it applies put it in their pipes and smoke it!! You captured I am sure the sentiments of a lot of servicemen with this one and the style of first person worked so well in this poem making it very moving and intense.

Somehow, some way, what you have said so well in this poem, must be reversed. There is a negative mystique about, and toward, persons serving in combat, or even serving. It seems to be a poorly understood role in our society, and, perhaps, an envy, or an avoidance for some reason, toward those who served and are serving. Thank you for this most appropriate work at this time. - Bill

AMEN! You have penned a great one here, Karla. Thank you, thank you very much for this. And there are a lot of hyprctitical faces walking around today. When America is more concerned with who is going to win the damn show "American Idol," I know that all is about as good as lost if we don't wake up. Hell of a poem, Karla.
