If I
can't dazzle them with brilliance,
I'll
baffle them with bullshit.

That's how I feel about my poetry right now.
I write what I think is my best poem, EVER,
and it seems the more I love it, the less
my words are read.

I string beautiful words together, hoping to
make a pearl of such rarity that it will be
put in museums to be admired, only to
find out it's fake.

I'm in panic mode right now, trying to stop
the falling elevator my mood is on; I
smell smoke of a burning ego going
down in flames.

I hate it when I get like this.  I know I can write,
but don't know what to do about the
green eyed monster of jealousy who
is my room-mate.

(((Karla)))

If I have told you once, I will be telling you again..

You need to believe in yourself more and not let reviews (or the lack thereof) scare you off! You write for YOU, and you write what you feel in your heart! If you are having trouble, just take a break, and when you feel you are ready, come back! Or do a story or an article; anything to keep your muse active! Don't be scared to write, just write, write, write, and try to have a positive attitude about it! I just write as I sees 'em, and if there are mistakes, so what...at least I got it up! I love to write, and as long as my muse is active, I will continue TO write! I feel your frustration, and you are certainly NOT the only one who has faced "the green-eyed monster", no siree! I have faced him more than once, but I am determined to spit in his face and write! He doesn't scare me! And he shouldn't scare you either! If you get reviews, that is great; but don't let the number of reviews someone gets stop you from writing! Just be glad you get ANY!!! Don't throw this God-given gift away; you write, write, WRITE, and keep that pen a groovin'! I LOVE how you write, and I hope you continue TO write! You are talented, and you can write about so many different subjects while I seen to be stuck in "disability-mode"! LOL But it's what I know, so that is why I do it, and more people need to be educated about disability and disability issues, so this is why I do this! Just write about what you know best, and to heck with the naysayers and their thoughts!

Powerful, emotive write; very well done! Take a bow!!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your twin, Karen Lynn (and your *1 fan!!). :D

the main motivation in written a poem is not to be concerned with feedback but to write you heart's and mind's intentions ...
ego should have no effect in a poet's purpose ... try not reading your comments for a week later or rather just be happy with its "hits" ... allows for a more objective perspective ...

good honest angst in this poem ...

Awww, Karla! Some people don't know how to express themselves, doesn't mean they don't like your wonderful works. I tyr to view new artist every week, somtime s I don't stop by my old friends as often. We all share you pain, Dear one. But please dont be discouraged. YOU know you're brilliant, and nothing can change that!

Karla you spoke from the bottom of your heart; this is a pain we all share with you as we are on the same boat. Dear sister can you imagine that no single person from my country ever read my work at the Den with the exception of a two or three somalis living in the US who read a poem or two over the three years I was writing poetry. The sad part of the story is that I mostly write about the Somalia problems and my fellow countrymen do not read it. It is poets like you that my poetry train was saved from getting derailed.
thanks

Honest and to the point, Karla. I am lucky if I can post one poem per week. I find that a lot of people do read but they do not leave comments. That does not mean they did not like what you shared, Karla. Still, your feelings are there so I acknowledge and validate them. Love and peace to you. Ton ami de la C-B, Canada.

Yes, we are our own worst enemies as Eileen said. I get the feeling, however, that the Den is less active of late. I've noticed that there are fewer reviews all around. Also, I know that some people read, like what they read, and never bother to comment. I'll hear from people sometimes by note that indicate they read my work often, and yet I've never seen them comment on anything. Take it all in stride, Karla. You're so talented. ~~Nordette

Great rant/confessional/poem;-) Karla, you are your own worst enemy! You must make a choice! You can't please everyone, nor will everyone like you. That's just the way it is,and we have to accept that. There are people who read you that never read me that's their choice, and it has nothing to do with poetry. So just write what you want, and to thine own self be true! That's why they make chocolate and vanilla! It's called choice;-)

Love,
Eileen

We all must slay our dragons, Karla, you are not alone in this. I know that I would love to read every poem that is posted here, but instead, I must read when I can pencil in a moment or two to do so. I miss a lot of good stuff I am sure. Sometimes it is a matter of timing of the post, I think. I have written some of my best work and had it not be well read, it is kind of the luck of the draw. We must learn to feed our own soul with our writing and not wait for someone elses praises to justify it for us. I will say also that I have written some poems that I thought were crap, only to have others tell me that they related well to my words and that my poem made a difference for them...Go figure!! Write for you, Karla, write what makes you proud to commit to the page. That is the truest reward of all.

Take care,

Sherry

You mean Sly, the green eye. The one who loves to pry. Lie saying you'll be no good up till you die. I'm sure you can write about that liar Sly..
