Thank you, Kathy Adams, for inspiring this one - on her review of 'Welcome To My Nightmare,' she wrote -

'Do you see the basement you make yourself every day in your poems? Sure, it is only symbolic, but is that not very, very significant?'

Makes perfect sense to me.

Perhaps if I write
about it, IT won't
'get me,' the demon
of fear in storms -

perhaps it's a way
of building basements
in a place where none
exists - a wall

of words, if you will,
to hide behind.  It's
the only thing that
helps keep me sane ...

A basement in the mind will not keep one safe from the storm unless the storm is purely in one's mind.

great poem to ponder Karla, believe me we all have basements, it's called fear of something. If it isn't a storm it's something else, right now for me it's old age

Grab the one thing you fear the most and more than likely there's a basement being constructed...it's a survival technique for the intelligent ones! :)
I always knew you were smart! :0!. . . and what a great thought from Kathy!
Love it!

You ain't in anyway afterall sane,
In fact you kind of are in the ass a pain,
But love you I do,
For all to see how to me its true,
Maybe just rent a cage, if you want protection,
At the local, if any, zoo...e

Karla, I am so touched that something I said inspired more of your wonderful poetry. I like the poem very much. I have a phobia of my own and so, understand yours very well. I admire the way you fight back.

be well and happy,
Kathy

What a beautiful, expressive write. Poetry is oft times a therapuetic exorcising of the dark places we are taken or willingly go.

...agree with Georg...his words of expression. ...walls of hope...to face fear...I wish you.

I love it, Karla... but how about making the font be justified on both sides so that there is a "wall" on both edges of your poem? I think that would be cool! (but... don't know that you can do it here on AD...hmmm...)

Cryssa :~)
