... In my mirror, I see a Poet's face ....

Image (c) 2005, Karla Dorman

Poem Artwork

Eyes:  did you ever consider them, look
at them, no, I mean, really l o o k?  No, I
guess not:  too busy using them to see
out of, unless they belong to someone
else.  And ears:  the fleshy appendages
to hang earrings and glasses, balance
hats from?  What would they say if they
could talk?  The nose:  the poor, poor
nose:  unnoticed until allergen or cold
opens the floodgates or slams the sinus
cavities shut:  either way, hard to breathe.
And ponder the mouth:  the cavern filled
with teeth and tongue, designed to trip
you up or keep you honest:  choice is
yours.  In my mirror, I see a Poet's face.
It's a nice face.  Not pretty, but not ugly;
average, guess you'd say.  Bit rounder
than I'd like, older ... but it's perfect for me.

In your mirror I see a pair of eyes looking far away into the future, with a shadow of selfdeprecating smile, and yes around all of it the aura of a poetess...

Hello Karla,

A face tells a thousand words...and the eyes tell a thousand more mysteries. Beautiful work here Karla, the writing and the face.

Very thought provoking write my friend. You've said so much and said it clearly. We are who we are and God would have it no other way either. Well done Karla.

I also spend time looking in the mirror, but it's more to solve a puzzle: why is that person not the person I feel to be? Who is she? Seems you've solved your puzzle. A great write! Rebecca

Karla,
I think there are Hollywood starlets who would kill for your lips! What I like most about this poem is your voice of confidence. We should all strive to be as comfortable with ourselves. Hugs,
Sheila

In my mirror, I look into familiar eyes and demand the answer to who are you!? And what did you do with the face I used to know? All gray hair and pudgy cheeks and freckles--my smile lines are baby wrinkles now. I always expect to see the me at 17, and I'm always shocked to see that other face instead... curiouser and curiouser... --Charlie
