... windows to the soul, these soft
brown orbs, heavily lidded, framed
with lenses so thick they appear

small --- despite their size, they've
seen too much.  Life's storms cloud
her vision with sudden squalls.

But the joys they've witnessed, she
keeps in a special room, along with
words.  Once in a while, she opens

the embroidered door to her heart,
letting them out, to show you there
is beauty in a world gone mad ---

you'd see it, too, if you'd only look
through the eyes of a Poet.  Not all
is blinded by hatred.  She's seen ---

and hopes.
