Poem Artwork

One day, soon, there will be a
protest in reverse:  been a long
time coming, the war between
those who sit on comfortable
asses wanting others to do the
fighting for them and those who
actually do the fighting in their
stead.  Some don't even make
it back:  those that come home
from the battlefield battle an
armchair regiment that expects
freedom and a government that
forgets sacrifices asked for,
received and paid in full.  They
don't ask for much and should
not lack for anything.  Shame ...

in the name of freedom there are those that do, and those that do not -- may God bless those that do -- they deserve more than most will ever know -- I salute you my dear friend -- may peace, joy and love be always with you -- JMW

Perhaps we should return to a draft, like the Israeli's. There, service is simply part of duty to country. Of course, would also like the government to refrain from starting wars for profit/arrogance, wars they can't finish--not that any war is ever really "finished." Especially for those who fought--or for those civilians who suffered the consequences of it being fought "in their house."

I have a dream...that one day all the War Veterans converge around the Congress Hill with their wheel chairs, crutches and artificial limbs, their scars after burning, the scars after bullets, the scars after shrapnel, I have a dream...that every each one of those congressmen should walk among the results of they love for Mammon and the courage of many that thought of defending their country, I have a dream...

They are sadly our forgotten heroes, remembered but once a year. Their numbers dwindle and their flame is soon extinguished before their story could be told in full or in part. I had uncles who were prisoners of war in concentration camps in Germany. They never spoke of their experiences so we could not praise them for the sacrifices they made. What a crying shame. Good write.

Karla,
This is why none of the armed forces have the slogan 'Join today and you're set for life'. A realistic poem. I hope it reaches the right set of eyes. Hugs,

Should not lack for anything. True. Is it the people who don't want to give them their due or is it the government that sends men and women to war and then cuts money for adequate services to them when they return?

A thought-provoking write, Karla.

When they come home, they don't ask for too much, except the respect that they have earned and the lodgings that they deserve. How awful it is to mistreat those who selfless defend their own countries?

Good poem, Karla!!!
