Listen for the pings and whistles each time a satellite or meteor streaks overhead!

Poem Artwork

Skies, scanned overhead
for the *ping* of meteors
for those who can't see

Perseids streaking
due to city lights or clouds -
twenty five an hour

now, expected to
increase as the peak draws near -
200 an hour

by the time Tuesday
night and Wednesday comes - isn't
science wonderful?

I like looking at the sky, but mostly I don't know what I'm seeing. I know the basics. What I like most about the sight is how humbling it is. Great job on this poem. Hugs,
Sheila

Tis indeed true, so much beauty and wonder in the night skies and scence allows us little by little to visit those alternate plains of existance.

Great poem and graphic! They remind me of a meteor I heard "hiss" as it passed by overhead once. Rebecca

Pings and whistles, eh? I have always thought that was the sound of love-starved old ladies as I strutted (wheezily) by. Thanks for straightening that out Karla, now I truly have nothing to look forward to. Oh! Wait! Yes I do I can listen for the pings and whistles from Heaven's light show. Gotta love it.
