Poem Artwork

The clouds sag in the
bra of sky, heavy
with milk.  A thirsty

child reaches toward
them, but they're just out
of reach -- dreaming of

plenty does not mean
it will come true .  They
crack on chapped lips that

only suckle air --
suffer the children
who've dreamt empty dreams.

Karla, how many empty dreams have I dreamed? -- to suckle from an empty breast of expectations and desires is to experience life's realities, disappointments -- you expressed this so poignantly my dear friend -- may peace and love be always with you -- Jon Michael

An expertly crafted image of sad, Karla. You must get sick of me saying so, but I'm constantly amazed by your original descriptions relating to the sky and weather. Enjoyed!

Children suckling at empty breasts has a lot of connotations--all of which I think you cleverly mean. Famines and deserts of all kinds, no. Be watchful. Count your blessings, and that cup will soon run over. --Charlie
