His old worn out black Stetson hangs lonely on the wall,
His Gibson six string’s in the corner and never gets played at all.
Dusty pictures on the shelves saved moments of another time,
Empty glass by the computer screen next to a half a bottle of "shine."
Chorus:
He used to be the local shining star,
He Played all the honky-tonks
driving in his fancy car.
Pretty girls would chant his name and knew he would go far,
It’s easy to imagine things when you’re a shining star.
He fell asleep alone last night with words he could not find,
The lyrics of that hurting song kept running through his mind.
The booze and age did finally take their toll, years and whiskey stole away his soul.
The gigs and offers finally just ran out but Nashville fame’s still what he dreams about.
Chorus: or instrumental break
He didn’t make the big time fame and fortune not meant to find,
The whiskey and hard living have taken all his mind.
But he’s still down in Nashville his name on peoples lips,
Even bigger than George Canyon smiling in those video clips.
Great country song for sure! Is this set to your music? I'm getting melody and rhythm coming in on this one. Terrific story! And all so true (after reading this one, I'll have to add a little revision to my own take on the subject: my song: "Can't Get to Nashville"
Glad I read this one. Write more songs.

Walt, this hit a note with me, I could hear Hank William singing, "You Cheating Heart." I do believe I was born loving country music and I've been to Nashville several times to just visit the Grand Ole Opry and the museum's. Country music tells a story of life, love and family. I'd sure like to hear this tune sung...I know it would be great.
Glad I read this one. Write more songs.
